What you may need to know
1. “First look” at yet another Netflix sci-fi effort, this time based on a novella by George R.R. Martin, him who gave us Game of Thrones.
2. Of all places, Nightflyers is currently filming at Troy Studios in Limerick. Great get, guys.
3. It stars Boardwalk Empire‘s Gretchen Mol, and Irish talent in the shape of Eoin Macken and prolific character actor extraordinaire Brían F. O’Byrne.
4. Nightflyers was previously adapted into a 1987 film that it looks as if nobody saw.
5. No release date is set, but Netflix will screen the series everywhere outside the USA when it debuts, presumably later this year.

That gets me giddy :)
And a Lost In Space series too…. Woohoooo! :)
I’m looking forward to Lost in Space. I liked the Joey Tribbiani version when I was young and stupid and time is keeping those memories soft-focused and golden.
It was decent popcorn fair.
Made for Saturday’s RTE1 6.30pm :)
Gotta love that retro poster too… reminds me of going through the scifi section in the old video rental shops of the 80s picking up obscure b-movies and trashy flicks :)
I actually have that novella somewhere – must dig it out.
(Er, not with that cover or anything, part of a collection.)
Just remembered the first George RR Martin book I read was Fevre Dream, an absolutely stonking 18th century Mississippi steamboat vampire novel.
Niiiice :)
that’s a cracking book that, oddly enough, suffers from and benefits from GRRM’s tendency to allow a book to go on too long; the last quarter or so of the book dragging on and then exploding into action.
thank God GRRM has an exclusivity clause in his contract with HBO, couldn’t have another thing added to the list of things getting in the way of him finishing those books.
he should just give Brandon Sanderson the nod to finish off the saga and be done with it. Sanderson did a fine Job completing WoT
I’d be happy with that. Sanderson is keeping a thundering pace with his own books (almost one a year I think) so he might not be keen to interrupt that. I’m not even waiting for Winds of Winter at this stage, plenty of other books (new and old) to be reading.
Go Lifeforce or go home.
