The Hysteria That Came In From The Cold

at

The Russian Ambassador, Mr. Yury Filatov, leaving the Department of Foreign Affairs after being told by the Secretary General that a named diplomat had ten days to leave the coutry as a result of the Salisbury attack.

“In essence Taoiseach, you are asking us to trust Boris Johnson, and I dare say that this may not be the wisest course of action,” [Mary Lous McDonald told the dail]

Ms McDonald accused the Taoiseach of attempting to dismantle Ireland’s neutrality.

However Leo Varadkar said the decision was taken following an assessment carried out by Irish security services, including the defence forces and gardaí.

“This is very much an act of solidarity with the United Kingdom,” he said, but added that Ireland had no quarrel with the Russian people.

He said the decision on the individual person asked to leave was based on advice from gardaí and military intelligence….

Sorry.

Too silly.

Something very wrong when a toerag like Leo can become the Taoiseach of this failed state.

    1. dan

You have obviously never been to a ‘failed state’ if you think Ireland is one. The parochial hyperbole of the left never ceases to amaze.

      1. GiggidyGoo

it’s a failed state where the keepers of it prefer to line the pockets of vulture funds, tax nom doms, themselves rather than invest in its own nationals. So Gringo is absolutely correct. On all points.

        1. Clampers Outside!

You can add… Mary Lou still in a seat after her denial of her parties operation of kangaroo courts, and expulsion of those on “trial” in them into another country… All to protect her party regardless of the actions of those expelled.

          Add that too, yeah.

          1. GiggidyGoo

Ooohhhh ‘Look over there’. You want a few ‘look over there’s’?
Sitting Government Minister takes illegal loan from her company?
Fancy being glassed by a FGer?
Dublin and Monaghan bombings – why no release of information?
Revenue fines FG over tax evasion?

I have oodles of them. You do the ‘look over there’ posts, and i’ll revert to you. Look out behind you.

          2. Clampers Outside!

At least you’re not denying what she did, which was no different to RCC denying Bishops moved paedos around the parishes, in all fairness. She’s cut from the same cloth in that regard.

          3. Ron

Change the record clampers. Nauseating having to read your crap rants about Sinn Fein and Kangaroo courts. We get it. You don’t like SF.

          1. GiggidyGoo

Ah my little stalker. Still can’t put any thoughts together on the discussion? Calling someone names is just, well just plain stupid. Sometime, please post something intelligent.

        2. DeKloot

Hyperbolic drivel aside you all will delighted to learn that Ireland is placed 172nd out of 178 in the Fragile States (formerly the Failed State list).

South Sudan sits top of the tree. And having had the pleasure of visiting Juba, all statements suggesting Ireland is a failed State are not just idiotic but also disgraceful.

          1. GiggidyGoo

Failed state gets handouts from IMF. We owe more now than we did when we got the handouts. Is that success?

      2. david

It is a failed state kept alive on the drip as creditors suck the life blood out of us.
200 billion of Irish distressed assets sold off since the crash, but none taken off our debt
So where has the 200 billion gone?
        I know the fiscal space

    2. RuilleBuille

Something very wrong that Leo will rely on Boris for the facts.

Boris has been sacked twice from jobs for lying.

    3. M

No problem though with Israeli spies who use an Irish passport to assassinate a Muslim in Dubai.

  2. realPolithicks

“He said the decision on the individual person asked to leave was based on advice from gardaí and military intelligence….”

That would hardly fill you with a great sense of confidence.

    1. ReproBertie (SCU)

Just out of curiosity, how many cars are stopped and searched in Dublin resulting in firearms being recovered? How many assassination attempts are foiled?

That all comes from garda intelligence. There’s nothing random about the cars that are stopped and searched.

That said, they did go to the wrong political meeting last week.

        1. realPolithicks

Actually they did, it was the same venue but they still went to the wrong meeting.

    2. david

Bit like the drink driving .
      Maybe Tulsa got involved.
Its clear ,the reward is the new seat on the UN security council that Canada are after. More Irish government corruption .

      1. Iwerzon

Agreed – someone is being lined up for the cushy UN post. I wonder who will it be? Hmmm, (sits back, fills pipe!)

  3. some old queen

following an assessment carried out by Irish security services, including the defence forces and gardaí.

Up in Phoenix Park, all the photos were laid out on a table and the lads went…

    Eeny, meeny, miny, moe,
Catch a Russian by the toe,
If he screams then let him go,
    Eeny, meeny, miny, moe.

    1. Neilo

A Shinner accusing Boris Johnson of being economical with the actualite or no fount of common sense? Stroll on, chica.

      1. david

Like their stance in the referendum ,pro choice, from the party that evolved out of murdering people
They bombed their way to the political table.

          1. Clampers Outside!

Might as well bring back the RCC. There’s little difference in operation of either…. top down, do as you’re told or be bullied out, or suffer “expulsion”.

        1. realPolithicks

“from the party that evolved out of murdering people”

If you read a little Irish history you’ll find that your pals in FFG evolved in exactly the same way.

          1. Neilo

….And stopped murdering many, many, many decades ago and sought a purely constitutional route, unlike SF/IRA. Also, no history books are needed to look up Paul Quinn, for example.

        2. Iwerzon

David, I seem to remember learning in school that FF and FG also bombed and shot their way to the political table.

      1. jusayinlike

I’m now officially annoying you Nigel.

You’re like my shadow, only much more gullible.

          1. Neilo

Anyone else like the look of that Def Leppard/Cheap Trick double header later this year? I normally just go to poncy jazz gigs but I’m willing to embrace power pop with a featherlight touch of metal.

  4. francis almond

The dicks in the foreign office should be expressing their heartfelt sorrow at the death of the 41 Siberian children in Kemerovo not expelling Russian diplomats for the suspected involvement in the murder of a spy.

My friend from Latvia (who like all former USSR country men & women living in Ireland and elsewhere, speaks Russia) told me Putin has vowed to line the perpetrators of the accident ‘up against a wall’ – which means he will order their executions.

Russian justice, hard to argue with.

ps. The Guards and the security forces know that Putin ordered the execution of a double agent in London but they don’t know how many breath tests they faked or where the previous two commissioners mobile phones are??. Right so.

    1. dan

It’s fairly easy to argue with Russian justice, actually, given it’s often completely arbitrary and politicized.
The irony of Putin complaining about safety standards in a Russian shopping centre, when him and sizeable group of oligarchs have stolen the country’s resources and lined their own pockets. Maybe if they spent some of that money on social services/infrastructure instead of on Mayfair mansions, Russia wouldn’t be in the state it’s in.

        1. dan

I take it you have never been there?
You are also clearly not an economist.
Russia has huge resources systematically asset stripped by a tiny minority.
Run by an autocrat. Corruption rife. Police stop tourists for bribes. A truly horrible place to live.
Not all down to Putin, but him and his cronies have not helped.

          1. jusayinlike

I presume you have citations to refute the above graph, if not I can’t accept any of those claims, thanks all the same though..

    2. Matt Lucozade: The Only Reader of the Village

we don’t have a “Foreign Office” – that’s the Brits.

  5. Neilo

@david: you might very well think that, but I couldn’t possibly comment save to say that I don’t think the evolution is yet complete.

  6. ahjayzis

Can someone keep an eye on Maurice McCabe? Let’s make sure he’s not bundled onto a plane to Moscow this week…

  7. Nigel

I’m just saying someone should have dressed up as St Patrick and chased the guy to the airport waving a crozier and screaming ‘I cast thee OUT foul serpent of espionage!’

  8. Alan

I am getting worried about Ireland’s neutrality. This and PESCO…..it feels like it is been dismantled. Anyone got a link as to what exactly is the evidence that points to Russia? Would be interested to read. I read one article that Russia asked for samples of the poison but were refused.

    1. jusayinlike

There’s no evidence Alan, none whatsoever…

And we’re supposed to believe these clowns, even after the sexed up Iraq dossier..

    2. GiggidyGoo

You won’t get a link to that. You will get some links to what the UK’say’ which is completely different to what you want. ‘Everything matters’ is a saying that a guy named Brian Tracy’ teaches. So, May is under pressure over Brexit. You get very strange ‘pas de deux’ week in, week out. One week the EU and the UK are at loggerheads.

The next there is some white smoke of some sort of deal. The next week it’s back to loggerheads. May actually wants (in my opinion mind) to find a way to stay in the EU to try save UK from a severe economic kicking, while saving face. The EU also wants the UK to stay. So – an incident like this is a way to show the UK and EU populations that ‘we are stronger together’. And that will be the next few months line on the media.

Did the Russians, or did the UK do this? It will never be known. But i guarantee you that Brexit will not happen the way commentators are telling us it will. It probably won’t even happen.

Bit diversions such as this are helping the EU and the UK come to a ‘remain’ arrangement.

      1. some old queen

Of course there is a conspiracy theory that brexit was all just a scam to keep the European far right in check?

        Dum de Dum.

        1. GiggidyGoo

Naw. Brexit was voted on, and the vote was Brexit. What you have now is May and the EU trying to wangle a backtrack. So, no, Brexit wasn’t a scam. But what’s now happening is.

          1. some old queen

Brexit was most definitely a scam, but not a conspiracy of that sort. Not a word about reducing immigration these days, mainly because Brexit won’t change it one iota.

          2. GiggidyGoo

SOQ. Brexit was a game that Cameron lost. He was oversure that the vote would be remain. The success of Farage was the result of something bordering on a scam, but the blame for the failure of remaining was down to disorganized mainstream parties.
May was left with the poo, and Cameron disappeared. She’s caught between a rock and a hard place. She has to be seen to accept the will of the people, but that will has probably switched to remain now, so she has to find some way of retrieving the situation.
It may well come down to some sort of temporary exit, and a few years of pas de deux again until they call another referendum. She could of course take the nuclear option of not going with the referendum result (she’s entitled to do that i believe).
Or she could call another election, which Labour would probably win (which would suit her) and the question could be once again put to a referendum.

    3. gorugeen

Me too Alan. Our neutrality is what made our UN missions possible. This squarely puts us with NATO. And the Brits are big and bold enough to fight their own battles.

      1. Alastair

The Swedes and Finns (not NATO members, and an actual authentic neutral state in the case of Sweden) also expelled Russian diplomats. Our future UN missions will be grand.

    4. david

They have no proof only accusations
The spy spied for both British intelligence and the Russians
So both sides would have the same reasons
As for samples in Syria I remember they were blaming Assad for chemical weapon attacks in Aleppo
Again when Russia asked for samples they were told no from the UN team of inspectors
Also none of the bodies of victims were tested which was strange
They tested samples of rubble handed over by the rebels
and the exact site was not forensically examined I believe with all sides present

Govt expels Russian diplomat based on Gardai intelligence that he may be an agent

    BROADSHEETERS : Where’s the evidence?

SocDems claim their taxi driver was a mossad agent

    BROADSHEETERS : It’s a conspiracy!!

don’t ever change guys. this is great fun

-1, a staunch fg supporter siding with rubbish fg policy, foreign and domestic, quel surprise..

  10. Harry Molloy

It’s worth reading the front page of the Sunday Times and the planning permission at the Russian embassy in this context. And the massively disproportionate number of staff they have here.

      1. jusayinlike

Harry Apathy cites the Indo and the Times, both infested with Leo’s grimey SCU.

I’m hardly surprised Harry, your getting more right wing by the day..

        1. Harry Molloy

only one other poster used to call me apathy :-)

you can read what is referenced in the articles, then of course you can take it or leave it.

probably wouldn’t seen real to you unless it was in a YouTube video I’ll admit

          1. jusayinlike

Harry cites the Indo and the Times, both govt mouth piece’s and than tries to crack a joke at my expense..

trust me pal the joke is on you..

He’s a big effin’ Tory, he’s only delighted to be showing ‘solidarity’ with them. It’s more than solidarity he’d like to offer .. if he could, he’d have us rejoin Britain, and he’d try work some way to become sitting in Westminster. that’s what that tit would really love, to return to ‘the mainland’

  12. Joe

Someone asked a legitimate question….”Just out of curiosity, how many cars are stopped and searched in Dublin resulting in firearms being recovered? How many assassination attempts are foiled?”

Based on the Garda figures 2 million cars were stopped, 5000 Kalashnikov guns were recovered and at least 100,000 assassination attempts were foiled….about as valid as dumping out a Russian diplomat by Boris Johnsons little lictor (pardon my Latin) Varadkar :)

  13. Matt Lucozade: The Only Reader of the Village

For a second I thought they had expelled “Stephanie Knox”.

  14. nellyb

This expulsion gesture is some kind of a ledger entry by Varadkar. Whatever we think about it is likely wrong, we know nothing. Get over it and welcome the easter bunny in the coming weekend.

  15. Frilly Nation : The Rupture is real

    Heeeemmm
Who was it that cracked into the Revenue Ashtown Gate Block and made off with a few laptops……

Mary Lou McDonald declares trusting Boris Johnson ”may not be wisest course of action”
Whereas, we are safe with the wise counsel of Gerry Adams, ex TD Barry ”Kingsmill” McElduff and Senator Maire ”Stack” Devine.?
In my opinion the last 3 named are capable of starting a war anywhere.
