A Limerick A Day

at

Backstage at a UFC fight
A Dubliner gave folk a fright
He threw a hand truck
Which left people shook
It wasn’t a dignified sight.

He’s been charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault and one count of felony criminal mischief so if it was staged its backfired on him big time. What a dope.

realPolithicks, surely it was staged but he too far? If not, I don’t know what to make of it.

          1. Bernie

Gorgeous George, you’re not part of the rapid response unit anyway…thanks for that groundbreaking update.

    He’s a credit to himself.
Looks like he had a faceful of the aul Columbian Marching Powder.

That, and if he’s successfully prosecuted – which looks likely – he’ll be deported and banned from re-entry. He’s either there on a work visa or a ESTA waiver.

In other words, his UFC career in in tatters. No more Vegas or MSG fights.

        1. DeKloot

I mean. Maybe it was all a ruse to generate a bit of hype. Maybe Dana White knew that by stripping McGregor he’d provoke the beast. Maybe McGregor was in on it. But I doubt it. An incident like that would need planning and there’s no way it would pass a legal test. Like, the NPYD, the criminal charges – a couple of which are felonies i think, the Judge he’ll be in front of later….

The UFC leadership are not stupid.

          McGregor is however.

          1. Brother Barnabas

i’d find it hard to believe it was staged… didn’t someone get glass in their eye? it’s bit beyond the usual panto stuff

          2. Jeffrey

Felonies are for US residents only afaik, Im on the side of a staged/prepared marketing stunt. No one was mentioning this WE UFC 223 now its top story worldwide. This shit works for that sports.

      1. mildred st. meadowlark

Sure he’s pretty much burnt that bridge anyway, no?

Would Dana White even allow him to participate again if he isn’t deported?

It’s ‘murica the real life grand theft auto and ultimately nobody cares….as long as there’s a dollar value and some entertainment to keep people busy…

In the US, the McGregor brand is like Enron… Too big to fail…

          :-J

          1. :-Joe

@DeKloot Sure, but I think it wa the other way around there….

Anderson failed first(and became Accenture down by the canal in Dublin) and Enron collapsed afterwards but you know what I mean…

Interestingly the other fighters and coaches might form a protest against McBusbuster after this but they are all contractors and many will still recognise that McGregor has helped the whole sport of MMA not just UFC get a lot more money for the fighters.

If you look at the amount media coverage / hype / marketing / $$ / being generated just in 24hrs….It’s staggering how much attention he commands.

Russia in the news, UFC trying to break Russia, UFC’s biggest global star in history now in a massive feud with the toughest soon-to-be champion and biggest MMA draw from Russia… Making any sense?

The numbers don’t lie…it’s already absoloutely massive and it’s just another episode of the UFC drama that keeps the eyeballs open or rolling etc. for the money to keep flowing paying for driving the content, selling the merch and pay-per-views.

McGregor can be banned from the US but Khabib in Moscow or Europe is the new talking point so what does he care, his work is done….

He’s like an advanced AI marketing machine sent from the future to destroy us all….

            :-J

          2. DeKloot

Nah. Enron first. Caused breakup of AA. I worked for Andersen Consulting at the time which became Accenture. Boring stuff, but AC was pretty much separate from AA.

          3. :-Joe

Ahh ok.. I had thought Anderson was found to be negligent before Enron collapsed but it was all a move to deflect from wider problems.

I figured you were involved in the numbers and books game…

If you get bored tired if you could become a whistleblower and start a podcast, there’s always a lot of truth that needs to come out of the finance sector.

HE DIDN’T TRY TO FIGHT A FIGHTER OR EVEN A COUPLE OF FIGHTERS HE TRIED TO FIGHT A BUS FULL OF FIGHTERS AND HE DIDN’T THINK IT TOO MANY.

He’s trying to bring berserking back and the world ain’t having it.

  3. :-Joe

I’m not making any excuses for him especially with the threat of physical harm to the public and the gang style madness that played out like “Assault on Precinct 13”, but if you’re looking for some perspective….

He’s acting like a spoiled brat because in the UFC the landscape or from his point of view, his dominance of the hierarchy has suddenly changed.

It is suddenly apparent to him that he’s becoming less relevant now that Holloway has stepped out of his shadow to try to usurp his throne by taking on his own toughest challenge that is Nurmagomedov and with only six days notice.

Holloway will most likely lose but he’s already won over the fans for bravery in stepping up while McGregor remains a long term absentee in what can only be fear of losing badly to the expert grappler combined with the lack of motivation to take the risk before another possible super-fight with Mayweather in MMA.

The revenge for Artem Lobov scenario is just an excuse and a useful sub-plot for any reason to kick up a fuss and derail anybody’s attempts to take the spotlight away from him this weekend.

It’s blatent criminal thuggery and violent behaviour on one level… Operatic Makiavelian Shakespearean drama on another…

Take your pick, both are true and it plays perfectly into the US addiction of WWE style fantasy. The binary polemic play of good guy Vs bad guy…. The True American Opera.

True Martial Arts and MMA could be represnted a lot better than the UFC is doing but to blame McGregor alone as just a “scumbag” is naive, simplistic and ignorant of the facts nevermind the usual begrudgery and classism the Oirish love to hurl at each other.

The kid is a genius at creating and controlling the script on a day to day, off the cuff and I’ll see you and raise you double kind of way. All this does is play into the narrative of love him or hate him and keeps people talking about him…

Somehow he is just clever enough to know how and how far to take it without serious criminal charges but more importantly without getting his ass folded in half and handed back to him by a team of world class Dagestani grapplers who would probably have murdered his whole team if they had got off the bus.

Anyone else from the general public would get a year in the can for previous or a suspended sentence and/or a fine esp. for those celebrity types who drive the violent American illusion of freedom.

Watch how he will be forgiven… he’ll pay the fines and take another long break for the next Mayweather fight in Europe if need be. He is the new this guy turned bad guy. Remember pretty boy Floyd became Money Mayweather…?

This is what they want you to think:
The UFC thought they created a marketing monster that they could somehow control like the many before him but like King Kong this mighty ape has had other ideas the whole time…

    Here’s what they really think:
WOW I would never in a million years think he would take it to this level of marketing genius so quickly.
Conor vs Khabib Gang Vs Gang
    CHA-CHING…. CASH RULES EVERYTHING AROUND ME… C.R.E.A.M GET THE MONEY $ $…
The Warriors Vs West Side Story etc.

He then fights Mayweather in MMA half a billion.

It’s tragically obvious and hilarious to watch… It looks like McGregor is willing to keep on going for another episode in the blockbuster franchise that is his life. It usually ends badly after two or three, McGregor is on five, six, seven at this stage??…

He’s looking a bit desperate… but he knows how to roll with the blows.. it’s a shame he no longer has the appetite for regular fights but maybe this is his way of finding the motivation to get back in the saddle?…

Or is it one more Mayweather payday and he’s done?…

Who cares?… Only half the planet at this stage..

    :-J

Last Wednesday Liverpool football thugs attack a bus with Man City players to get a desired result.
One day later McGregor attacks a bus with opposition fighters on it.
