Can You Hear That?

From left: Ryan Tubridy, Marian Finucane and Seán O’Rourke

Laura Slattery, in The Irish Times, reports:

Marian Finucane’s audience is 58,000 lower than it was at this point a year ago, while her Sunday show has fallen 38,000 to 308,000, having slipped 28,000 year-on-year.

Sean O’Rourke dropped to 295,000, down 17,000 since the last survey and 59,000 since reaching a high of 354,000 a year ago.

Tubridy now has 304,000 listeners, down 14,000 since the last survey and 32,000 year-on-year.

… Tom McGuire, head of Radio 1, said this survey was “a bit of a curate’s egg, I suppose”, with news and sport doing better than the rest.

“There is work to be done with Ryan and Sean,” he said, but he was less concerned about Finucane’s losses, citing the tendency of weekend JNLR numbers to make big swings…

Marian Finucane, Sean O’Rourke and Tubridy lose listeners for RTÉ Radio 1 (Irish Times)

Sure didn’t the BBC think he was the bomb. Pity he didn’t stay there. I can’t understand people who listen or watch him.

What can we do with my doppelganger using my name?
I actually like Tubbs and Sean O’Rourke

See the big “D”? that’s called a capital letter, david. You don’t use them, or punctuation or anything approaching sense. Keep up.

RTE don’t care what the listener or viewer figures are. They just don’t, and they won’t care until some real pressure is put on them to justify themselves. As long as the guaranteed licence fee is there they won’t give a toss. hence yheir main focus is to get the liocence fee increased and the wa of collection changed so that nobody can avoid it whether they have a TV or not.
They are trying to position themselves as the ‘news you can trust’ in the era of ‘fake news’
If it was just a news channel, the fair enough but Tubridy,Duffy et al, neither inform or educate. Quite the opposite

Ratings are down.. tear up their contracts because they aren’t delivering and give some new bucks a chance

How Tubridy and Finucane ever got a job in media is a mystery to me.

O’Rourke is at least professional but his appalling political bias should be cause for concern.

Much better podcasts online to be honest. More choice, less RTE parroting fake news and propaganda.

    1. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

Exactly. I don’t really listen to anything but Lyric anymore, outside of Podcasts.
Oh. Maybe that’s because I’m old.

Very peculiar that tubs figures would be down.
It must be the messers down the back..or those writing on the Wild West web
He’s a great show lined up for this week but that’s for another day.
Maybe the childer-den stopped listening.. or the stay at home slaves

    Godspeed Ryan..
