Tablets Of Stone

at

This afternoon.

Kildare Street, Dublin 2

People Before Profit TDS Brid Smith TD and Richard Boyd Barrett TD brandish A-Kare abortion pills while speaking to the media outside Leinster House ahead of the 8th Referendum on May 25.

Ms Smith said:

“In this country we have an intolerable situation where the sentence for taking an abortion pill is double that of a convicted rapist. It is truly barbaric. We need a yes vote in the upcoming referendum so we can begin to reverse this.

Increasingly young people are accessing this pill on the internet as a form of having the termination but they do it isolated, without medical supervision and they do it in situations which are considered by the medical profession to be dangerous.”

Is that the bottom of the barrel I hear being scraped?

no, that’s the sound of common sense jarring with your dodgy ethics and smug self-righteousness.

      FU

A rapist get a lesser sentence than a girl with a crisis pregnancy

you Shame Duffy might actually be that barrel’s arse

For all the explaining of dubious figures thrown out by the No side I’m surprised no one is seriously questioning these similarly dubious figures.

Average rape setences are 10 years, some who fight their case get as much as 12, the article doesn’t make it clear what the maximum sentence on the books is.

14 years is the maximum sentence a woman might get if sentenced, but are there any examples of anyone actually being sentenced for supplying the pills let alone anyone actually using them?

People before profit have a real talent for saying things I might actually agree with in a way that pisses me off immensely. Loony left.

Or you know, just have the baby.

Millions of women do it every year.

It’s not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things, and for the mother is usually a source and inspiration for lots and lots of unconditional love.

Babies are good for people, families, communities, nations.

    1. MaryLou's ArmaLite

Having a baby is not a big deal? Seriously? Most people consider it to be the biggest change and challenge in their lives.

    2. scottser

yeah, like that clinically dead lady pumped full of anti-biotics and steroids to keep a fetus alive that had no chance of survival outside the womb. not a big deal in the grand scheme of things at all.

Says someone who’d probably demand admittance to intensive care if he ever experienced a period!

        imagine him with cracked nipples?

        although
I might start picturing him and the few others about
        especially McGuirk
        needing an episiotomy
        without an epidural

        and getting loads
        and loads
        and loads a’ stitches

then going home with New Born Twins
        to a 3 yr old
        a 5 yr old
        and a 9 yr old

and a fella on shift work

You don’t care about life if you can’t show respect for women currently living.

And judging by the scorn which you talk about women, you really don’t.

do you reckon it’s the great fear of the unknown or the other? where’s that come from ?

          3. Sentient Won

            Mildred,

When have I ever talked scornfully about women?

            SOQ

You’re better than that thoughtless homophobic slur.

Have a baby, and you die in the process. Have a baby, and you both die in the process. Have a baby that’s your cousin. Have a baby that lives for an hour. Have a baby you didn’t want and cannot support. Have a baby because you are a womb on two legs.

Has anyone ever been charged or convicted for taking an abortion pill? No, really I am curious.
I get that this is a sensitive, deeply personal matter for most but the moral grandstanding and virtue signalling from all sides of the political spectrum is sickening.
Many of those that wish to vote yes (which they are more than entitled to hold that view) are utterly dismayed by anyone having an opposing point of view. And likewise, some people on the no side are quick to label those that oppose them as baby killers etc.
and there is still a couple of weeks left……

        1. Yep

Giving context to why people are worried it might happen here really doesn’t merit being a smart are rotide.

    1. Frill the 8th

      in Norn Iron
      yeah

that girl in Belfast got a 1 year suspended
but the Council only recently (this April btw) voted to no longer prosecute these cases
however a hearing is due on a previous charge that has to stand

against mother secured them for her 15 year old who was raped

    2. Alors

John f, are you suggesting that it is correct to have laws that would jail people for 14 years on the books, just as long as you don’t enforce them?

Part of the reason for voting yes is to end the slithery, uisce-faoi-thalamh, whatever you say say nothing nature of Irish attitudes, laws and politics, and bring our country into being as a plain, honest place.

    3. SOQ

You asked the very same question yesterday John f. Is the oul dementia at that stage so?

    4. Nigel

So now you’re being snotty because the Yes side have the cheek to not agree with the people who disagree with them? It’s amazing what people will raise to the equivalence of outright lying and miscarriage posters st hospitals and calling others baby killers in order to balance the both-sides-are-as-bad equation.

me junior was hosting a student friend from overseas, first time in Ireland, she couldn’t get over the posters – the voyeuristic nature of it. And i thought – it looks like we live in psychiatric ward! lol :-) but she loved dublin apart from that. lucky pope wasn’t around then, dublin would have doubled down on … authenticity :-)

I was driving around Dublin today. Some Retain stickers but never seen one Remove. Couple of big breasted sweatshirts which is a pretty good indication of how this is a generational issue. And if a taxi driver feels so strongly then they should have their bumper stickers visible, in front, before pickup.

every time I see a fella in a repeal t shirt I tell him he’s a fine thing:)
