Palestinians in Gaza border clashes today

Palestinian officials say at least 41 people have died in the latest round of protests.

A mass attempt by Palestinians to cross the border fence separating Israel from Gaza quickly turned violent, as Israeli soldiers responded with rifle fire.

Monday quickly became the bloodiest single day since a campaign of demonstrations began seven weeks ago, to protest Israel’s economic blockade of Gaza.

At least 1,700 Palestinian demonstrators were also wounded along the border fence with Gaza, the Health Ministry reported, as the mass protests that began on March 30 and that had already left dozens dead erupted again.

The relocation of the United States Embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv was set for Monday, timed to the 70th anniversary of the formation of Israel — a move that many Israelis have celebrated but that has enraged Palestinians….

You’d think they’d be too busy celebrating the Eurovision and the US embassy to bother…

Or maybe this is them celebrating the Eurovision and the US embassy.

ugh only Islamophobic bigots will say that these people are as much protestors as the people who bomb, shoot, stab and run over people all over Europe are.

I’ve read this a few times and it still doesn’t make sense. Jimmy must be too upset at the deaths of 41 people and the wounding of 1,700 more to compose his satire effectively.

        it’s our own fault

if we want jimmy to do this right, we need to be more outraged at his comments

he hasn’t been getting many responses of late so his apathy is understandable

If he keeps them simple it’s fine, but when he ties himself up in knots like this you can’t tell what he’s trying to say. Stick to ‘ugh Nazis’ Jimmy!

Also, this is a horrible story. Trump is really earning that Nobel nomination.

The Guardian’s Jerusalem correspondent, Oliver Holmes, has more details from Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman, Lt Col Jonathan Conricus:

“As of now, no one has crossed the fence,” he said, adding there had been “several” attempts.

He said one Israeli soldier had been “slightly wounded by shrapnel” but he did not have details. “Our troops have not taken any sustained direct fire,” he added.

I don’t have much time for the politics of certain Palestinians (death to Israel/All Jews), but the air and sea blockade that’s been going on since 2007 really gets to me, helped by Egypt, another happy-go-lucky state packed with attractive politicians..

Improve the quality of life for the everyday person in Gaza and you might, just might, reduce militancy.

I went to a ‘College’, here in Dublin, with a Jewish Curriculum. The, ‘gentiles’, myself included, were sent up to the loft of the building for Classical Studies, when the Rabbi was breaking out some sick Torah beats.

It was around the time of one of the, ‘intifada’, strangely, some of the Jewish students chose to wear a, ‘Keffiyeh’, which I found surprising.

BS, I normally don’t mind punning titles, but this is inappropriate. It was a massacre.

Wtf did they think would happen? Seriously? What did those people who rushed an Israeli border honestly think they were going to accomplish other than getting shot? They chose the stupid path, they suffered the consequences. Maybe Arafat’s wife should invest back the hundreds of millions they squirreled away back into the people it was supposed to be for. Or maybe they shouldn’t let a terrorist organisation function as government. Lots of opportunity to do better there.

Over 50 dead, hundreds injured, including children. If this is how they celebrate opening an embassy, and winning a Eurovision, let’s hope they never win a World Cup. They’ll use nuclear weapons.

Only the enemies of the west get done for war crimes. Israel will claim they were terrorists and tomorrow theyll do the same to iran.

I have never been to Jerusalem but my grand aunt went at least twice a year. She was a lesbian nun as was her two sisters… nuns not lesbian I mean, srt8 nuns.

What is it about Jerusalem that makes so many people kill each other?

Whither the contortions in the Irish Times op-ed section now as they try and balance a call for a cultural boycott of the Eurovision next year with the fact that a member of the Israeli navy band won with a #metoo narrative this year.

It’s tough being in Tara Street, innit?
