Free Tomorrow?

Boyle and Environs for Choice writes:

Our constituency here in Roscommon, South Leitrim was the only one to vote no in the marriage referendum. We want to do our best to be on the right side of history this time.

We’ve had an amazing hardworking but very small group of volunteers work their asses off for a Yes vote in this very rural, spread-out area.

Tomorrow – Thursday May 24 – we’re looking for a little support from yiz city folk.

We’re running a bus from Dublin to Roscommon (stopping off in Leitrim) tomorrow Thursday, May 24. Those on board will be helping with one last push to encourage people in Leitrim and Roscommon to come out and vote Yes on Friday.

This bus has been kindly sponsored by singer Jess Kav and actor and Roscommon native Chris O’Dowd. Also a wonderful Canadian who saw our bus appeal on Facebook, is buying the bus crew’s lunch!

Obstetrician and long-time repealer Louise Kenny is aboard our bus. Lynn Boylan MEP is also travelling on our bus.

There are still places left. Come on board and help us get as many Yesses as we can in Roscommon & Leitrim.

To book a seat on the bus call or text 087- 7409102.

Thanks Eamonn

This is all SIPO compliant, yes? Even the Canadian contribution?

      Wha
You think its a matter for SIPO
for treating them to a snackbox in SuperMacs

would you ever get over yourself

I understand many in the Yes campaign don’t think SIPO and associated financial rules matter. But they do. Funding campaigning with Canadian contributions (and UK contributions?) isn’t allowed, as far as I know.

too bad the No side lost their American contributions. Pity we can’t deport those over here specifically to interfere with our democratic process.

It’s literally worse than hitler that american money is being used to fund the no campaign but this sort of thing and the people who no longer have a vote in Ireland urging people to vote one particular way is AOK.

That made him instantly and inexplicably hotter to me, you know as non existent entities go.

Also, he sounds like the title of a cheesy romance. And I would know, I’ve read a few.

Given Colm O’Gorman refused to obey SIPO on the Sorus bung, I doubt SIPO are of any use regardless.

      Bussing. Great image.

It’s a different world down there! Drove through the other week and there are posters citing the Ten Commandments and posters with quotes and pictures of Mother Theresa!! Didn’t see any Yes posters.

  3. Andrew

I wish you well and well done to the local volunteers.
However, I seriously question the wisdom of bussing in people from Dublin to bring the message. I am not sure how that will go down.
    Good luck anyway.

As well as the Repeal message they will also be bringing some of the first Avocados seen in Rosscommon and vhs copies of Titanic. And shiny glass beads.

Isn’t it a shame that Roscommon Together for Yes are implying the electorate to which they are lobbying for a vote on the forthcoming referendum as been on the “wrong side” of history in the marriage referendum of 2015.

Why is it when given a free vote in Ireland, a vote to express your opinion on whatever matter it may be; that provided your opinion is equal to popular opinion; all other opinions are WRONG.

Roscommon together for Yes might want to rethink how to lobby the electorate.

    1. Anne

Eh is it not fairly well established now that the No side in the marriage equality were wrong? Didn’t they make points around now people would start marrying their pets and others insisting on several husbands and wives etc which was of course pure nonsense? We’ve had gay marriage for over a year now and nothing has changed except people are happier at being able to marry who they love. So the No side was wrong…

    2. IdiotsKnowWhatIdiotsDo

Voting against the last referendum was wrong. Simple.

This one is a little more difficult but regardless how you feel about abortion, sending Irish girls/women across the water for it with no advise/support/aftercare just isn’t…. well… right.

    3. Nigel

It has been known to happen that people with one opinion thinking that people with the opposite opinion are wrong does not bring about the end of the world or civilisation.

      1. AssPants

No it doesn’t Nigel…. it sure doesn’t; and now I realise the world continued to turn after I posted my comment, more likely keyboard ranting is all it was.

        Apologies to all.

Boyle in Roscommon used to be a bustling market town, but is now a sad place with closed down shops. The 230-year-old Royal Hotel on the main street overlooking a river that flows through the town has been slowly falling into shabby neglect since its closure some years ago. The Yes missionary bus people will have to find convenience food somewhere, although there is an atmospheric cafe along another side of the river serving good coffee and some hot dishes. To be on the safe side in several third world towns that they visit the missionaries should bring their own sandwiches and flasks of warm beverages.

      1. Gabby

If they divert to the outer reaches of Sligo or Cavan the bus driver may have to take evasive action if wild sika deer run suddenly out of the woods and dash across the roads. At night deer, badgers and ravenous foxes come out on the boreens and often get run down. They, not the evangelising pale faced missionaries from Dublin, can end up in cooking pots.
