items from the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon gift bag; Kinvara will make a swap

Roisin Keown of Kinvara Skincare, writes:

Lots of twitter chat and disappointment about the cleaning product samples in the VHI Mini-marathon race bags this year.

We’re offering to swap anyone’s unwelcome washing tablets for something we think they’ll love – a discount off our Absolute Cleansing Oil.

We’ve just gone live on twitter with our offer, so we’re letting Broadsheeters know. Because we think the only cleaning products to get excited about are the ones that make you feel awesome and capable of anything – natch. Thanks Broadsheet!

In fairness.

Wow, Clamps, that’s uncharacteristically bitter of you.

After the DiL event, those who participated are offered fruit, water and hot food, and it’s very much appreciated by all involved.

      1. Clampers Outside!

Bitter? Ahhh chill out. They’re complaints about getting free stuff. And there are women who’ve said they’ve got the same goodies at mixed sex events…. if anyone’s “bitter” it’s the moaners :)

  1. Nullzero

Triggered over the free stuff she got given to her for free. I’m a man and I’d be happy to get a free bit of detergent, but that’s the thing, when you get something for free you don’t have a huge amount of comeback do you? Seeing how it’s free.

    1. Pat

For gods sake will someone please take Nullzero’s bait and argue with him? He’s so lonely

      1. Nigel

Um, okay. Hey, Nullzero, this site is free but it doesn’t stop you complaining about it.

Bonus: When they give women free detergent, it’s sexist. When they give it to you, it’s a broad hint.

        1. Nullzero

It’s free stuff, men and women do laundry these days. If you think laundry detergent is sexist then maybe you are the one with the problem.

          1. Nullzero

Is that how you respond when somebody shows up your argument for being vapid and inherently misogynistic clap trap?

          2. Nullzero

Do you even think about what you’re writing before you post it?
What’s next? Your dad is tougher than my dad?

          3. Nigel

Your Dad would be way more embarrassed by what you write online than mine would be.

          4. Nigel

As a man I hunt the wild and fierce Detergiant and grind their bones to make my washing powder.

          1. Nigel

Women, if you think it is sexist, you’re wrong, as a man called Clampers says it isn’t.

            LOL!

          2. Clampers Outside!

Also, see comments on this page :)

Then again, you do love the ol’ play the victim routine, and on behalf of others. It’s your thing since you arrived on this site sadly.

          3. Nigel

Ah Clamps. You know it wasn’t a joke until I made it one. Good luck keeping up, though.

    2. Pants Machine

I’m a man and I was given the exact same freebees after The Great Limerick run. Everyone got the same.

  2. Scundered

Sexist race anyway. Also I wish they’d stop using the word marathon, it’s a bleedin’ 10k.

    1. terry1

And the washing powder and dish wash tablets will really empower the women
Seems to me this is a sexist race

Good luck with the training and I’ll see ya there
but don’t knock the people who have to work up to a 10km
      we all started somewhere
and god forbid if you get injured one day you may have to scratch your way back up too
humility, running teaches you that eventually …she’s a cruel but beautiful mistress

          1. Janet, I ate my Avatar

Don’t know why I’m bothering but running is my gig hon…yes marathons plural to date
you need some advice on kindness and humility
but you’re just a troll and probably don’t walk the length of yourself

          2. Janet, I ate my Avatar

            oh absolutely
get me talking about running and I’d put you to sleep Ron
            guilty as charged :)

          3. Janet, I ate my Avatar

just jealose because wemon do well in Ultras thanks to our fat/ fuel storage capabilities, better pacing ( not running with your wang) and resistance to pain

  3. Dinny Do Well?

Incidentally, those dishwasher tablets and other “sexist” products regularly appear in ALL goodie bags at races. If you think they don’t, you’re not a runner, Jennifer O’Connell (https://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/health-family/fitness/well-done-in-the-mini-marathon-girls-now-back-to-the-kitchen-1.3518926).

As an aside, I did an analysis of the food content of one those bags at one event (a 10 mile) and put the (mostly dead) calorie count at about 4,000, i.e., more than an average 26.2 mile marathon calorie burn – 2,500-3,000):

Crisps, 2X calorific bars, chocolate, some kinda brownie thing, weird vegetables drink thing, sweets, etc.

So, you’d be better off eating the dishwasher tablets.

Perhaps the Irish Times can do a Plodcast about sexist goodie bags.

    1. Lilly

Jennifer O’Connell irritates and bores me in equal measure. I haven’t been a girl since I lost my pig tails thanks.

  4. lois

one year the dublin marathon bag contained wart remover i still have it anyone want to swap

  5. Owen

FFS – its called the “Women’s” Mini Marathon. If there is ANYTHING sexist about it, its the fact its just for WOMEN. You need to wash your gear after a run. You can now do it for free.

I look forward to the Mens Only event getting all the support these ladies get.

      1. Sheik Yahbouti

I myself am OUTRAGED. Why has there never in recorded history been a running event for men? Outrageous.

  6. Shane

I wish there was a mens mini-marathon, theres no way I could run a full marathon but I could do the mini-marathon and raise some money for charity too. They can give me as much free cleaning products as they wish, I definitely would be very grateful. In fact any woman reading this who unhappily recieved these products – please feel free to post them to me
