Ah here.
The Sports Capital Programme (SCP) has awarded Blackrock Rugby Club and Mountpleasant Tennis Club, Ranelagh, Dublin 6, grants of €150,000 each , the maximum that can be given for local projects, in their latest round of funding.
Good times.

Rampant Reverse snobery !
They are still local sports clubs that cater for member of their community.
Seems to be unless the cash is given to the GAA there is uproar !
Or boxing or whatever the “disadvantaged” kids do.
Wait until they find out that there’s crickets clubs in Dublin
Loads of cricket clubs got dosh: not the full €150k as the funds are for less expensive things like mowers and the like.
The report above doesn’t show what the money’s for. The grid does. It’s interesting, actually.
Cases of London dry gin and Pimms.
The thwock of leather on willow sure works up a thirst.
And the G&T’s and Pimm’s cups certainly make the inevitable rain delays pass by a little more easily.
My very large school on the northside of Dublin didn’t have any sports facilities whatsoever in 2001 and only got a basic PE hall years later after years of fundraising.
Ye, because the GAA is the people, of the people & for the people.
Arbour Hill Boxing Club got 150k snots too.
there was huge political clamour to get a boxing club in Bray renovated
what happened with that?
Yikes! Dunno.
I know it’s tongue in cheek, but it was renovated at the expense of the exchequer and leased to himself to be run as a local community facility, yet was also then used as a side business to train pros.
is that the condition attached to a grant, though? there are a fair few sailing clubs, tennis clubs etc in that list, which i don’t think could be regarded as local community facilities – private clubs charging big membership fees, more like
(personally, i think any club that receives public money should be open to the public)
most clubs are open to the public, you just have to join and pay the membership fee like everyone else
you’re point only makes sense if it is fully funded by the taxpayer
Why wasn’t Katy Taylor training in the high-performance unit? Why did the state fund the gym of a man who now trains boxers who fight for a member of the Kinahan family?
I heard it was shot down…
I think this would be fair criticism if they hadn’t given similar amounts to a rake of other places all over the country.
Inverted snobbery again from the Broadsheet hacks!
Lovable hacks, though.
were back baby !
probably just a coincidence that same day Dan Boyle, has exposed once again the hopeless situation with planning in Ireland, the minister showers his home area with 2,000,000 of cash.
“The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Simon Coveney, T.D., today announced almost €2 million in funding for four Cork-based organisations to implement aid projects overseas. Brighter Communities Worldwide, SERVE, SHEP (The Social and Health Education Project) and University College Cork (UCC) will receive grants from Irish Aid’s Civil Society Fund.”

Hope that was a cut & paste job.
