Knock Knock
Knock Knock
Don’t open the door!
it’s a load of sick perverted paedophile bastards coming to rape and physically harm and mentally fupp up your children
Johnny. Take a chill pill. Zanax is good they say.
Is that himself in the green t-shirt?
Is this really happening? Hasn’t his organisation put this country through enough?
Leave the Charlie churches to their worship. No doubt there’ll be a cohort here slamming an organization who have had no influence in this country for decades. I personally will just ignore the Pope being here, much like any number of things I have no interest in.
No influence here for decades? What country have you been living in. They are literally the floating turd that will not flush.
Lots of historical scandals that are disgusting in the extreme. However, Ireland since the early 90’s hasn’t been the same in terms of church influence. When I was a kid the local church was so busy on a Sunday that the local schools had overflow masses to cater for all the people clamoring to get to church, compare the 80’s to today in terms of church influence and numbers attending mass and then look at people’s attitudes and how different they are to back then and the differences are astonishing.
That’s a decline in influence, not no influence.
but leading to an increase in flatulence
Decline isn’t an accurate description, more a precipitous drop. The bottom fell out of the catholic churches influence a long time ago, they have a lot to answer for without a doubt but they have been decimated and to say otherwise isn’t realistic.
but the stink of them is rising…
Precipitous decline in influence is still not no influence. It’s important to be particular about this since they still have a presence in areas of education and health care, and therefore a degree of influence in those areas
Try getting your non-baptised child into a range of schools in the country and then say that the church has no influence.
There is the last area in which the church has got an influence, however that is set to change going forward.
…that and healthcare.
Will the new ‘Holles Street’ maternity hospital being build on St Vincent’s land be allowed to provide abortions?
Shur’ they’ll have ta
Any and all procedures required by their HSE service agreement have to be satisfied
Sum’ting else
The Board
AFAIK
Have already committed to providing services that comply with Current Legislation
“The Board (AFAIK) have already committed to providing services that comply with Current Legislation”
Hmm.. but can a new board change their minds? and did they agree to the legislation as it stood – or that they would always comply with legislation – even if/when it changed.
Busy 2 day schedule.
Those volunteers look so enthusiastic about his upcoming visit!
Gosh, who wouldn’t want to be a part of that joyous team!
I was thinking the same thing, sure hasn’t the catlic church been a bastion of all things joyful and happiness for centuries now.
I’m not really religious but might go to the Phoenix Park. Hopefully he’ll have something suitable to say to the Irish people that includes the word “sorry”.
Where did they get those volunteers from?! if that’s the future of the Catholic Church in Ireland, they’re in a spot of trouble.
That’s some Carbon footprint flying from Dublin to Knock. Shameful
D’ya know what would be good craic
For the Cathy Sinnott Pilgrims ta walk from Dublin t’ Knock
Praying
Instead a’ kneeling
They haven’t gone away you know
They haven’t but the recent referendum makes it clear that they’re on their way
don’t be too sure of that. the Catholic church is a formidable foe. no organisation survives almost 2,000 years (since last pentecost) without knowing what it’s about. It has overcome far bigger challenges in its history than it faces today. it will still be around 2,000 years from now – hopefully, on the periphery with relevance only to those that invite it into their lives, which is where it should always have been in this country. and that goes for every religion.
It was formidable but the advent of mass media, culminating in the internet has really put a dent in their PR machine, terminally so, it would seem in this country.
here’s hoping
57.53 percent of registered voters voted no (21.66% )or didn’t vote (35.86%) . a lot of the Yes voters were obviously so conflicted that they were crying like imbeciles before , during and afterward. Ireland is very much still a client of the Vatican. The school baptism barrier isn’t a factor anymore but wait and see how many people will still go along with it anyway . Parents will use the “child will feel left out” excuse next. The church isn’t going anywhere. They are only one environmental or political cataclysm away from regaining power and the chances of that happening are practically certain over the next 50 years. It will be like Mad Max with priests!
78% of registered voters voted yes or didn’t vote . a lot of the No voters were obviously so aware of the stupidity of their position that they were forced to lie like imbeciles before , during and afterward. Ireland is very much waking up to the lies and hypocrisy and thievery and criminality of the Vatican etc etc
Bloody hell! Leader of a glorified paedophile ring getting a red carpet. Phoenix Park is the place for him alright but its not the Aras.
No Viking (Vatican?) Splash?
saving that for the after party
+ 20 million squid
ffs
what time Is the apology to the Irish People from the Catholic Church.
2010.
never I’d say
“You have suffered grievously and I am truly sorry. I know that nothing can undo the wrong you have endured. Your trust has been betrayed and your dignity has been violated. Many of you found that, when you were courageous enough to speak of what happened to you, no one would listen. Those of you who were abused in residential institutions must have felt that there was no escape from your sufferings. It is understandable that you find it hard to forgive or be reconciled with the Church. In her name, I openly express the shame and remorse that we all feel.”
– Pope Benedict 2010
http://w2.vatican.va/content/benedict-xvi/en/letters/2010/documents/hf_ben-xvi_let_20100319_church-ireland.html
so he wrote a note ?
You are free to not accept the apology. You’re free to scoff at it, whatever, is fine with me.
But what you can’t do is try to perpetuate the myth that the Pope or the church, at every level, has not apologised for abuse and handling of abusers. That’s just not factual.
and in a demonstration of the sincerity of the remorse, the church will do whatever it can to compensate its victims?
Call me old fashioned but I’d want more than a note if it was my child, Mother, sister, Father or brother.
“7. To priests and religious who have abused children
You betrayed the trust that was placed in you by innocent young people and their parents, and you must answer for it before Almighty God and before properly constituted tribunals. You have forfeited the esteem of the people of Ireland and brought shame and dishonour upon your confreres. Those of you who are priests violated the sanctity of the sacrament of Holy Orders in which Christ makes himself present in us and in our actions. Together with the immense harm done to victims, great damage has been done to the Church and to the public perception of the priesthood and religious life.
I urge you to examine your conscience, take responsibility for the sins you have committed, and humbly express your sorrow. Sincere repentance opens the door to God’s forgiveness and the grace of true amendment. By offering prayers and penances for those you have wronged, you should seek to atone personally for your actions. Christ’s redeeming sacrifice has the power to forgive even the gravest of sins, and to bring forth good from even the most terrible evil. At the same time, God’s justice summons us to give an account of our actions and to conceal nothing. Openly acknowledge your guilt, submit yourselves to the demands of justice, but do not despair of God’s mercy. “
So is he asking the priests involved to hand themselves in to the Gardaí? or just to pray for them? (or both)
Your second highlighted section makes it very clear. “submit yourselves to the demands of justice”
pity the church didn’t adhere to that noble principal itself
“submit yourselves to the demands of justice”. no, I don’t think it is clear.
If it said: “Go to your nearest police station and confess to the Gardaí any laws broken by you or by other members of the church that you know broke the law” then it would be clear.
It would have to be August, wouldn’t it! No point in visiting Rome in August cos it’s too hot and everything is closed. Might check flights anyway, being in another timezone while this is on would be a bonus.
Or you could just let it pass by without going to any of the events or paying them any undue attention, and get on with your life – just a thought.
Daisy: you head off to where ever you like – nobody cares, or as was suggested just ignore the whole thing. However you do like the dollop of hysteria.
Saturday 25th August 2018

45000 ticketed pilgrims for Knock. Are Ticketmaster on board?
what time is he in Craggy Island…must be as holy as Knock at this stage.
Well with the Holy Stone of Clonrickard(?) being elevated to a Class 2 relic, it’s well on the way.
Yes I know that many of you are well aware of this already: I just like saying it.
The Basket is still being passed around and putting some of your cash into it….

I actually watched RTE news at one today. Over half the broadcast concerned the Pope’s visit, which will not take place for sometime. There were other newsworthy items shoe horned into the remainder – National Broadcaster? :-(
18.30 Arrival at Dublin Airport
18.45 Departure for Rome
yeah right – eejit’s going to miss his flight
Everybody go to the website and snag as many tickets to as many of the events as possible. Volunteer for everything. Then… don’t show up. Let empty seats do the talking.
I like the cut of your jib
I chortled. although it may have been a mini-evil laugh. muuhaaahaaHAAA
Always Right.
Juvenile.
Have you finished school yet.
Wright.
I’m a teacher, so in one way I won’t finish school until I retire. On the other hand, I’m on my summer holidays at the moment so you might say I’ve finished school for the year. Whichever of those statements annoys you the most is the one I’m sticking with.
FFS
I’ve had romps that lasted longer
Tisn’t even a full weekend

What will fill the void when a country leaves religion?
Something will fill it… Aliens maybe?
Or, you could say “we just did that”.
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/belief-in-aliens-may-be-a-religious-impulse/
it would be nice to see the void filled with cop on, common sense, justice and humanitarianism and a bit of love thy neighbour for old times sake
sure there is a higher chance of another intelligent life form somewhere than there is of the Catholic church’s teachings being real.
3 o’clock on Sunday lads. Don’t be late.
I would not be surprised by the amount of hostility some Nutter might try to kill him
I pray to god I am wrong but ,if that happens in Ireland it really will do nothing for our image
WTF
hiya David
The glass is half Nazi/half my dad ran away, but all bad. bad bad bad. If only we could all be like Israel, then the glass would be not shooting the pope.
