We Are Ireland – World Cup 2018 Song

Yes!

Jason Branagan writes:

Today marks the start of World Cup 2018 and although Ireland aren’t there, it doesn’t mean we can’t have a World Cup song.

Ireland may not be the greatest footballing nation in the world (despite what the song says), but no one beats us on nostalgia and that’s what comes through here.

We Are Ireland is a homage to the spirit of the Irish football fans…

Because we are crap. The Irish squad all have careers in the big money British premier league, why would they risk exerting themselves and risk possible career ending injuries for international tournaments? For the fans? Most of whom only tune into football once every 2 years for the Euro or World Cup and barely know the rules? Cant say I blame them, it’s just not in the individual players interest.

and for whom the world cup would have been the best opportunity to secure “careers in the big money British premier league” – so they’d have had more incentive than most to exert themselves for the international team

so pat’s talking utter sh 1te

Mostly Championship players and Premier League subs. The foreign player influx in the Premier league pushed out the culture of young Irish lads being scouted in large numbers. Its a real shame, but thats how it goes when buckets of money are thrown in.

i think it’s got a lot too to do with the resurgence of hurling and football in dublin (especially) and the huge increase in popularity of rugby all over ireland – and that’s been happening for the last 10+ years

that other football’s not really getting a look in

I’m of the opinion, I’m no expert on the whole soccer thing, but is it because of England, who won the World Cup in 1966? Most things are England’s fault – 300ish years of oppression in Ireland, The Famine, The Civil War, 6 Counties Partition, Shoot to kill policy, oh and Brexit?

Croatia was the most racist experience of my life
there with himself at the time
finger pointing, spitting, monkey noises, followed around, sureal questions about the kids,
if you aren’t white don’t leave the ” big” cities
