The former New World shopping mall in Bangkok – closed in 1997 and left without a roof by a fire in 1999 – floods during the rainy season creating a year-round haven for mosquitoes. In 2000, an unknown person began introducing koi carp and catfish to the flooded interior.
Not only do they feed on mosquito eggs and larvae solving the infestation problem, they’ve proliferated in ideal conditions creating a unique 150mĀ² urban aquatic ecosystem.
