No need to leave the city centre this weekend to get your festival fix as Interlude in the RHA Gallery is offering three days of music both outdoors on Ely Place and indoors in the art gallery.

Music ranges from hip-hop and dance headliners (Grandmaster Flash, Dimitri From Paris, Kenny Dope) established Irish artists & DJs (Lisa Hannigan, Donal Dineen, Tonie Walsh, Billy Scurry) to upcoming Irish artists (Wyvern Lingo, Booka Brass, Bad Bones, TooFools).

There is a Nialler9 stage on the Sunday too featuring Solar Bears, Cian Ó’Ciobhain and a Bantum (Prince A/V set) among others.

Friday February 12: Cian Nugent and the Cosmos @ The Grand Social, Lower Liffey Street, Dublin 1 (€10)

Already an established guitarist with a discography on respected US independent labels, Dubliner Cian Nugent‘s third album Night Fiction features a new instrument, his voice; and songs now share the alternative blues and rock vibes of artists like Kurt Vile and a country-leaning David Kitt featuring the expressive guitar playing he’s made his name with. Friday is the launch of the album. Support from Al McKay (Dick Diver), Bad Sea & DJ Daniel Fox (Girl Band).

As part of First Fortnight, the mental health-focused festival that happens in the first two weeks of January every year, a night of music, poetry and performance under the name Therapy Sessions has been lined up this Friday. Curated by Dublin duo We Cut Corners, it will feature music from rising “atmosfolk” band Saint Sister (Gemma Doherty and Morgan MacIntyre, top and performing ‘Virtual Hate’ on the Two Tube above), singer-songwriter Jennifer Evans along with poetry from Dee Campbell, South London spoken word artist Molly Case and Ryan Mangan.

This Friday evening, I am teaming up with Happenings to present the first in a series of three Friday afterwork gigs happening at the amphitheatre at the Civic Offices at Wood Quay (above).

Each Minimum Maximum gig is €5 on the gate and runs from 6:30pm to 9pm.

This week, we have 8-piece New Orleans-style band Stomptown Brass (who did this), Patrick O’Laoghaire’s moving piano songs as I Have A Tribe and new Dublin folk duo Saint Sister. Weather is looking good and dry too…
