Friends of those left seriously injured in the aftermath of Berkeley have organised a fundraiser featuring Nicky Byrne as MC with the following playing on the night: Jape; Mundy; Daft Funk; Vann Music ; Heroes in Hiding; DJ Deece; King Kong Company DJ Set; I’m Your Vinyl; Dublin; Gospel Choir ; Knights of Leon; Jessica Smith; Kurtis Wade; Columbia Mills; Neon Atlas ; Mongoose ; The Fontaines and Hijackers.

All proceeds go towards the survivors to help pay for aftercare, physio and required alterations to their houses. If you can’t make it you can donate directly here.

The Belfast four-piece Girls Names trade in the kind of rock music that will make those who came of age in the eighties feel at home. The band’s just announced a new album Arms Around A Vision inspired by European art movements – “Italian futurism, Russian constructivism, Germany’s Zero Group and both Neubaten and Bowie’s Berlin” Here‘s the first track from it – Reticence.

Over four nights at the Project Arts Centre in Temple Bar 12 artists with jazz tendencies mixed with post-rock, electronic and contemporary from around Europe will be showcasing their music. Afterparty improv jams take place over three nights at Sweeney’s on Dame Street for free too. Tickets are €15 per night or €50 for all four. Background to the festival here.

Musictown , the 10-day city wide celebration of local music and its many guises kicks off this Friday. There’s lots of free events worth a look from the Breaking Tunes music trail, Public Enemy’s Hank Shocklee and opera on the streets.

The big event this week Barrytown meets Musictown, a celebration of Roddy Doyle’s Barrytown Trilogy featuring Richard Hawley, Imelda May, Glen Hansard, Colm Meaney and more is sold out now so I recommend Sound of Silents, silent films given live scores from Seán MacErlaine, Shane Latimer, Sean Carpio and more…

Denise Ryan is a sufferer of “Lyme disease, pneumonia, Epstein-Barr virus, gastroparesis, chronic gastritis, candida, strep and clostridia infections, among other things” and the four bands above will hopefully add to the €30k fund for Denise’s treatment at a clinic in the US on Thursday. Donations are also welcome if you can’t make the event.

Saturday December 13: Block T’s Xmas Party: Squarehead, Bantum, Donal Dineen & more @ The Sugar Club, Leeson Street, Dublin (€12/€10)

Block T, the art collective and space operating out of Smithfield Square move to Leeson Street on Saturday for a night of music from Dublin indie-rock band Squarehead (above in the video for 2025), Prince-leaning dance tunes from Bantum and Donal Dineen’s eclectic record box.
