“Additionally, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County council has also banned bathing at a further two beaches: at Killiney beach, and White Rock in Dalkey. Killiney beach had its blue flag suspended due to the detection of E.coli and Enterococci in the July 16 tests. Further tests have been taken to determine the levels of contamination and results will be published within 48 hours. It is believed the water had high levels of bacteria which breach the minimum health standards due to adverse weather conditions, faecal matter and overflow from drains…”

“This summer up to 1,000 swimmers are expected to take the plunge into Ireland’s lakes as part of the Bewley’s Open Water Swimmer League. The league kicks off on summer solstice, 21st June, with a 750m and 1500m swim at Lough Key. On 19th July, competitors will swim past the Hodson Pillar in Hodson Bay and through the centre of Ireland as they compete in the 750m and 1 mile swim. Finally, the league will conclude on the 6th and 7th September in the spectacular Glendalough National Park where competitors will compete over 750m, 1500m and 3900m swims…”

This is the world’s largest outdoor pool at the San Alfonso del Mar resort in Algarrobo, Chile.

It’s 1km long, covers nearly 20 acres, contains 250 million litres of water pumped in from the Pacific Ocean and drops to 35m at its deepest point.
