Laura Helmuth at the Smithsonian debunks ten commonly touted ‘facts’ about the human brain. For example:

We use only 10 percent of our brains.

So what’s the other 90% for? Packaging?

It’s all downhill after 40 (or 50 or 60 or 70).

Who said that? Is this my semolina?

We have five senses.

Pfft. And the rest.

Brains are like computers.

No. We think different™.

We know what will make us happy.

We haven’t a frickin’ clue.

Men are from Mars, women are from Venus.

‘Theory’ from Uranus. But you knew that.
