Surprisingly.

It may not be.

I got a flyer in the door in Dublin 8 that says it collects clothing for ‘childrens cheltered (sic) housing’. The company is called ‘Export Clothes Collection’ and their company registration number provided is for ‘National Childrens Day Limited’, who went out of existence in 2005 (see below). The charity number they give has no match online that I can find. I just thought it might be worth letting people know that this might be a bit dodgy, and it would be better if they gave old clothes to shops like Oxfam, etc. The charity number is listed on this blog post about possible charitable scams.
