The painting is by James Arthur O’Connor (1792-1841) and entitled ‘View of Irishtown from  Sandymount’.

The gabled end on the left is Cranfield’s Baths (remembered in the name of Cranfield Road, Sandymount). Only well-off people could use the baths.  The locals shown in the picture wouldn’t have been let inside the place.
The church is St Matthew’s Church and that’s Clontarf and Raheny on the other side of the bay. You can also see on the right a sloping gangway on the South Wall with a gaggle of passengers waiting for a ferry to the mainland or perhaps for an eastbound ship.
