robot

Of this ultra fast robot he spotted at a 2010 competitive robotics event in Osaka, Japan, robotics dude Drew Noakes sez:

This machine was mind-blowingly fast and precise. Unforutunately for me, the guys demoing it barely spoke English, so I didn’t get much info on it other than it’s intended for use in positioning surface mount devices on printed circuit boards (SMD on PCB) during manufacture.

CYprus

It’s been upgraded to a Brazilian wax, apparently.

Sido writes:

“You recall the Cyprus haircut on bank deposits over  €100,000. Reading between the lines, there was some small print, a lot of people missed at the time. The actual haircut was 37.5% with a further 22.5% of deposits “reserved as a buffer”. Seemingly, the Trioka and the Cyprus Finance Ministry appear to be converging on a figure of 47.5%.  Zero Hedge, predicts the figure to rise to 60% at the end of the year, as the train hits the buffers.”

Ouch.

What you may need to know:

1. Warning: this clip is totally safe for work. That said, it does feature Shia Labeouf.

2. Nymphomaniac is the new film from Danish provocateur Lars Von Trier.

3. It stars Von Trier regulars Charlotte Gainsbourg and Willem Dafoe – both adorable in Lars’ playful romantic comedy Antichrist (2009) – alongside Uma Thurman, Stellan Skarsgard and Christian Slater, long overdue a comeback. It’s been twenty-five years since Heathers (1988). Shocking.

4. The film will be released in two versions, an explicit one and a softer cut. We suggest a third cut, minus Labeouf and his dodgy British accent.

5. Lars Von Trier – mad genius or total chancer? You decide…
