The electric breakfast?

The little cup that cheers?

Read on.

Eoin writes:

“Artisan coffee roasters, Bell Lane, in Mullingar, Co Westmeath have just been awarded three-star gold at the Great Taste awards in London for their Dragonfly espresso blend. It’s kind of a big deal. To put it in context, out of 10,000 products entered from all over the UK and Ireland, only 125 achieve the top three-star accolade.

“In celebration, Bell Lane founder, Ferris Beuller Stephen Bell, wants to give one of you a KILO each of the most critically-acclaimed espresso blend on the Irish market: Dragonfly; and another of their equally delicious Moondust blend. And to grind your beans he’ll also throw in a Hario home grinder (top).

    I believe, that’s 1 in 80 got a 3* accolade.

If there’s more than 80 competition entrants and just the one winner then, statistically at least, that would be more of an achievement

Espresso is the finest member of the Italian coffee family because like an elderly Italian Uncle, it’ll smack you across the face, pull your cheeks and say “Why you no married, eh? Too good for the ladies Mistera Biggatheshot”.

Disclaimer : Actually if you hear the coffee talking to you, you’ve had to much of it. Step away from the grinder.

Seriously, do not approach in the morning unless you are carrying a STRONG coffee (pref. espresso) which you should leave on a flat surface near me and then retreat for 15 minutes… After that I’m sweetness and light I am :)

  25. Patrick

Espresso is the finest member of the Italian coffee family because it’s the one thing that can still kick my ass out of bed in the mornings more than anything else. After Christmas I decided to dedicate this year to becoming my dream job as a musician. With out a fine espresso in the morning I wouldn’t have the discipline to maintain a productive daily routine. And thanks to a strong dose of Italian espresso when dusk rolls in each evening, I can keep up the long slog of late night recordings and many band rehearsals it takes to make music work. I’ll owe my career to coffee yet.
    Patrick.

Espresso is the finest member of the Italian coffee family because it was the only thing that would stop my dear dead nan from weeping about my prospects of a singing career based on a teatime television show. We also think she may have poisoned my puppy with it. Twice.

  28. martco

Espresso is the finest member of the Italian coffee family because without it I wouldn’t get to tut-tut in my head at people who constantly pronounce it as ECKK-SPRESOH…..kinda like the way some people keep on using the word PANINI to incorrectly describe their favourite cuisine de france based toasted sandwich roll that they are ordering at the deli counter during lunchtime which in fact is the plural term (PANINO being the singular term e.g. may I have one ham and cheese panino please)

    so there

  29. dubrugger

Espresso is the finest member of the Italian coffee family because without it all western civilization would crumble down around our ears. It is the cornerstone of all morning meetings, late night brainstormings and midday slumps revitalizers. The Friday night boost and the Saturday night jumpstart. In short it is the lucubration of the masses.

Espresso is the finest member of the Italian coffee family because like the Italians it’s passionate, in your face and screams “I am here, LOVE ME!” to all (unless you get Berlusconi blend, which is matured, and only appeals to young attractive females)

  33. Thomas

Espresso is the finest member of the Italian coffee family because I get farty and bloated from a foamy latte. Hook a brother up with somma this sweet sweet nectar of the gods.

  40. Zynks

  41. Fatoni

Espresso is the finest member of the Italian coffee family because it is made from the finest ground beans. That’s not the beans from the finest piece of ground, rather that beans used in the brewing of espresso are ground up finer than for other brews. That’s not finer as in better, just that they are ground into smaller chunks. It’s a powder, really.

I should write for a living. It’s all about economy of language.

  44. Corvo

Espresso is the finest member of the Italian coffee family because sleep us for the week, and it’s gotten me through many a night before a deadline. Knocking back espresso is far classier than downing cans of red bull. Nothing like the smell of it at 3 in the morning and it’s just as good at 3 in the afternoon.

Side note: the tiny cups make my hands look huuuuuge! :)

  45. Rapscallion
