Ballydehob.

The town that wouldn’t die.

Gwen Boyle writes:

Here’s a nice short film that Broadsheet readers might like – it’s a documentary on my home village (Ballydehob, Co. Cork), by a local film-maker, Sarah McCullough Canty. It charts the decline of the village in the face of cutbacks, unemployment and emigration, but also finds out how the people of the village are keeping the place alive. Ballydehob’s solution is to hold festivals – lots of them! Featuring a lot of community spirit, resourcefulness, and my brother explaining the great Ballydehob Turnip Race :)
