Sorry but why is this posted?
Michael realises these are sold in shops in Dublin, legally right?
    Basically this is just rubbish.

There’s a fishing and sporting goods shop located two blocks down from Jervis on Mary’s Abbey, have these types of guns in their window. They look fearsome, that is, authentic.

I was walking by there a few weeks back, and saw someone go past the window, do a literal double-take, back up and stare in at all the airsoft guns. He actually tilted his head, like my dog does when I’m holding a treat for her.

These should of course be legal in a mature democratic society.

The only stipulation should be that if you want one for any reason, you are then ineligible to own/buy one.

If people want to play air-soft, can they not just be given gun-size sticks and told to make gun noises with their mouth like most children do

    They’re not guns.

See that sticker on the lower left of the box where it says 6mm BB BULLET?
Means it fires 6mm plastic balls. It’s an airsoft toy. Muzzle energy less than one joule (so no, if you shoot yourself in the eyeball it won’t penetrate the eyeball, that’s why they chose one joule, and no, you don’t want to know the details of the testing).

And under Irish law since 2006 (thank Michael McDowell), it is not legally a firearm. It’s a toy.

(Point it at someone who doesn’t know it’s a firearm and thinks its real though, and the law says you can be charged as though it had been real, so don’t go waving the thing about in public…)

Unless you are shooting sea gulls, but if it doesn’t even penetrate the eye ball then presumably it would only make the sea gull angry. As everybody knows, you don’t bring a toy gun to a gull fight.
