How Did We Get Here?

Oh.

A confidential cable – part of the Wikileaks data dump –  from the US Embassy in Dublin sent to Washington and elsewhere in 2009 outlining Europe’s, the Department of Finance’s and Fianna Fail’s revenue raising possibilities post-crash.

Going forward like.

(Gary Toibin would go on to co-author a paper arguing Why Ireland is Not A Tax Haven)

So the breeders will be paying tax for the childers allowance. Is nothing safe?

No fear of a Tobin tax on stock exchange trades.

So this would imply the truth of the old saying “It doesn’t matter who you vote for, you still get the government”.
Ireland’s “Democratic Revolution”, merely changed the snouts around the trough.

It’s like swapping bodies but keeping the same brains. We have one party with different segments that take turns. Price you pay for a political system devoid of ideology or belief or ambition beyond a plaque on a door I suppose.

I still think it’s the civil servants that are running the show. No matter who are the clowns we put to play the front end of the play.

So… a publicly available report that was the subject of commentary at the time, and political speculation that was in the papers every day – high level stuff right.
The need to broaden the tax base was evident before the crash.

It’s not the same is it?

I’m looking at the front page and its the sort of mindless drivel our politicians come out with.
I click on the “REPORT” link. And I’m presented with a series of PDF’s to download, on various subjects.

Good ole “FAUCHER” hits the nail on the head in a few punchy paragraphs.

I think the point here is that they called it. I await ” well of course they did DUH!”
It is still an interesting read.
