As much as I hate Fine Gael, this is out of order lads. You only make yourselves look like silly little fools when you make attacks on a person’s appearance.

    1. Mr. T.

Oh come on cheerleading sycophants, don’t tell me his appearance isn’t the icing on the cake here.

      1. ABM's Bloodied Underwear

No one’s mentioned his appearance but you. It’s what’s coming out of the speakers rather than the screen which is the problem.

A man has funny eyes so he is untouchable….???
I didnt see it as anything but a pisstake of his ridiculous “Water doesnt fall out of the sky” sentence.

Your comment says much more about you than it does BS, Mr. T!

I also think that in the context of his sentence it wasn’t such a ludicrous statement.

    2. Medium Sized C

This isn’t like one of those “well you said it, I didn’t, *wink*” moments.

This is literally you saying it, when nobody else is.

    3. rotide

Gotta say my initial reaction was ‘are you serious BS, that’s out of order’.

Then i Clicked the sound on and i guess that’s what the post is about.

Initially it does look like you’re taking the piss out of his appearance though given that its a close up and vine defaults to sound off.

Yes, I thought it was quite a good line. If had been properly delivered it would have been a damn good line.

    1. Rob_G

You don’t contract typhoid if you say “no consent, no contract” three times before drinking untreated rainwater.

    1. Jess

The prevailing theory that I’ve just made up is because those who actively protest are seen as somehow lower than themselves, sociologically and economically. In seeing people protesting that they would have contempt for under normal circumstances they immediately take the opposing view to them in order to differentiate themselves from these ‘undesirables’ in an effort to artificially inflate their own perceived social standing.

This despite the fact that they are closer in status to those actively protesting than those they wish to rub shoulders with. Evidence of this can be found in how they so often make reference to the peoples appearance, perceived employment status, or that they wish they had free afternoons to spend protesting rather than having free afternoons to spend in online comments sections.

Or maybe they agree with paying for water or think Irish water are a great bunch of lads or something

      1. Rob_G

I find it hard to believe so many people have a problem with the concept of paying for water. Why not have everyone pay for the amount that they use, like food, electricity, petrol, etc?

        1. Jess

Because through general taxation is the fairest way of doing it because it takes into account your income. It does not adversely affect lower income people.

Because people are stretched to breaking point and can’t afford another bill.

Because people feel like we have already been paying for in through general taxation and don’t particularly fancy paying more for less.

Because the establishment and conduct of Irish water makes the details of the mahon tribunal look as innocent as a famous five mystery.

Because there is less red tape and expense and waste in having water centrally funded by taxation than setting up an over inflated quango with a bonus culture.

Because people are afraid of the commodifying of a human right to access to water if or when its privatised.

          and many others

          1. ReproBertie

How is paying through general taxation fairer that pay by usage? Paying through general taxation means the PAYE worker is funding the water for the unemployed and there is no incentive to manage our water usage.

General taxation funds public transport but you still have to buy a ticket to use the bus.

(I am under no illusions that managing water usage is anything other than a side effect of the water charges.)

          2. Jess

Bertie its fairer because its necessary for sustaining life and is not linked to your ability to pay. It doesn’t stack up to comparison with taking the bus.

  3. Clampers Outside!

Ah give over will ye, any gobsh*te that says water doesn’t fall out of the sky deserves to have the piss taken out of them.
Even if they say it has to be purified, it’s a dumbass thing to say and our dumbass politicians need to be taken up on their stupid comments.

    *rolls eyes again*

  4. flip

In Ireland we take rainwater, filter it, treat it with poison, – to make it drinkable- then allow 40% of it to leak into the ground …

    1. rotide

Sorry to be the one to break this to you Flip, but water is a poison.

      So is salt.

    1. Bertie Blenkinsop

I’m open to correction on this but I assumed the joke was what he said rather than his physical appearance.

    2. Davey T

Apologise to the man with a disabilit?….. despite not once mentioning his disability, but rather with a focus on something ridiculous and funny that he, a public representative (of sorts!) made – in other words, treating him as equal to other Senators/Politicians……. PC brigade gone fcking mad!!!!

      1. Robert

I think the “maybe less flouride” comment is attributed to his physical appearance and not the fact that he left the word “treated” out when he was talking about water falling from the sky.
        But that’s just me….

          1. Robert

So you are all here laughing because the Senator thinks water just falls from the sky? And it’s not because of the close-up of his eyes?

I just need to be clear about what level of stupidity I’m dealing with here….

        1. rotide

It’s not just you Robert. Look back over the thread, there’s a few people who drew the same conclusion and a lot of ‘Oh, i don’t know how you possibly drew that conclusion’ type of shuffling.

          1. NiallJames

I actually originally thought that the (now removed) “needs less fluoride” line was a poor jibe at his teeth. I didn’t even notice his eyes.

That’s me though…I’m not caught up in aesthetics.

            Except for teeth.

        2. Squiggleyjoop

If the camera was so close would that make it ok to comment on the stupidity of his statement? It’s just I wasn’t operating the camera and I find what he said stupid. Is that ok? Am I mocking his appearance? What if I read a transcript?

  5. Walter-Ego

He also said this last night (which most people seem to have missed) was “that water was a finite resource”.

  6. deliverancecountry

“It doesn’t just fall out of the sky; it has to be purified”. The emphasis is mine but all the words are there so it makes perfect sense. I still wouldn’t have said it though, it’s ripe for misinterpretation.
