Stopped buying this rag years ago for various reasons but this was one of them..
This news paper is kind of like the accent of the women on the radio, you know the ones with the Celtic tiger shopping bint twang., vacuous

I like this house. Am I not allowed to like this house?

I’m not about to buy it, unless circumstances change radically for me soon, but where is the outrage to be directed here?

Taken in isolation you are right- taken in the context of CONSTANT stoking up of the property market by the IT and the Indo it’s obvious and cynical manipulation of public opinion as to the “value” of property (they say value, what they should be saying is the PRICE of property). SURGING prices! Even RTE is relentless in pumping up the market

Reading the Indo today I was disgusted to see them cheering the cynical moves by Inda and Joan to ride rough shot over the Centrals banks plans to (belated) stop our current housing bubble. Just wait a couple of years and see them cry they weren’t to know just as Bertie and the green shower did in 2008/9. If the rise in property over the past year was not a bubble you wouldn’t have seen the level of waling and gnashing of teeth we had from ever vested interest group going (newspapers, estate agents, banks and mortgage brokers). They need this bubble to continue and someone finally tried to pop it.

I recall an RTE correspondent recently stating that one of the benefits of the rise in prices was that people would come out of negative equity and would thus be able to sell. He seemed to be ignoring the small issue that, for this to happen, prices would have to continue rising, effectively pricing everyone but the filthy rich out of the market.

To be fair, the Greens were in power for how long before the bubble burst? Blame them for stuff they did, but that one is hardly their fault. Especially since there were a number of policies put in place by them which would have more or less halted things in their tracks had they been in place ten years earlier.

Ok. I neglected to look at the price before commenting last night. Seems expensive. I withdraw my offer on the property.

Who would have thought that we’d come to rely on the Daily Mail for the truth. They reported yesterday that the panic has gone out of the market and places are taking longer to sell. Anyone who keeps a close eye on Myhome.ie could have told you that, but The Irish Times and Indo seem determined to generate hysteria.

Classic FF move by FG trying to buy the next election. Enda Kenny should have no power to overrule the Central Bank. As for The Irish Times, two words: My Home. I bet they’ve kicked themselves long and hard :)
