Too right.
Serves them right for trying to pay for stuff
Good.
Idiots fumbling for change on the bus are a major source of delays and therefore costs not to mention the potential for robbery, fraud and cost of handling cash.
The Leap card is cheaper already – stop moaning about the pi5s poor state of Public Transport and do your bit to improve things you disorganised pillock.
Robbery? Get real mate
eh, that’s why they installed the secure drop box for coins…
While it pains me to agree with Irish Rail, Dublin Bus, and a post as vitriolic as that, I do agree. If you’re getting the bus or rail on a daily basis, there’s no excuse NOT to be using something like the Leap card.
bus wankers
Of course there’ll be no idiots fumbling for their leap cards
Of course not, just look at the leap ads. Everyone works in offices, are in love and and come back from the opera by bus.
Only chavs in trackies, drunks and people who go upstairs pay by pennies.
I have always been suspicious of able-bodied people who don’t sit on the upper decks of buses.
Out of interest, have they sorted out the Leap so that you don’t have to speak to the driver and just swipe and walk like an Oyster?
Because if you need to tell the driver your destination that has to be slower than even the old paper tickets?
The Oyster way only works because it’s a set fare of £1.45. It’s not dependent on distance or “stages” as Dublin Bus is.
you can swipe now – but you get charged the standard fare – which may be more that you require – hence you have to speak to the driver
I use the bus once every couple of weeks, I am one of those ‘fiddling with me purse’ types, looking for change.
Feel my delay commuters!
Correct me if I’m wrong but both cash *and* leap fares are increasing: http://i.imgur.com/zuERDOd.png
(see page 5 of http://www.nationaltransport.ie/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Determination_order_7_for_cash_Leap_Dublin_Bus.pdf).
So it’ll be about €2 to get from Dame St to Rathmines. Might as well start sharing taxis, would cost the same.
Or Walk Tubby !!
Years ago there were a spate of junkies robbing buses – it should have been the time to switch to pre-paid only – instead however sophisticated cash deposit yokes were installed at great expense because Dublin Bus were afraid the disorganised pillocks would ring Joe Duffy.
Grow a pair and force people to stop being so pathetic and shambolic
Junkies were robbing buses? What did they do with them? Go for a joyride? Take their friends on a day trip?
ha ha. holding a diseased needle up to the neck of working men while you steal money is hilarious.
Summer holidays with Spliff Richard I reckon.
I live abroad but visit home a few times a year. I think it is a shame that there is not a combined day travel card that you can buy to cover bus, luas and dart. It would be so handy for visitors to Dublin. Every other major city in Europe has something like that.
+1
That would be the Leap Visitor card. Unlimited travel for 72 hours. €19.50.
It there anything just for a day?
In the absence of a Leap Moon-On-A-Stick Card, just a regular Leap card with cash top ups and capped fares will have to do.
An awful lot of people go around with an Oyster card from a past jaunt to London. At least Dublin still gives you the option to pay cash.
Dublin – “Major city” – ha ha
the amount of people who get on buses and theyre card doest “work” and then get waved on by the driver makes me laugh.. i pay cash when i use the bus but at 2.60 a fare i seldom use buses.. Outgageous price to ride a peasant wagon!
number of people, not amount
“peasant wagon”
We’re better off without you on the bus.

40% higher than 2012
I mean price, not the junkie at the back.
Annual inflation running at 0.3%

And these feckers want 10%-plus?
These cash price increases are to ‘encourage’ you to use a Leap card. It’s the same as London – the Oyster card fare is about half the cash fare.
Looking at the Leap card changes above, we can see 8 fares have increased, 8 fares decreased and 1 is the same.
If you took one of each of these leap fares before the change it would cost €34.70; after the chnage it’s €2.05 – so you’d save €2.65. Not bad….
