Not sure if you guys have seen this, Dogs Trust Ireland have a campaign today called #canaldogs, 51 dogs along the [Grand] canal this morning representing a day of dog surrenders after Christmas, each with their own reason for being abandoned or made homeless.

Spay all dogs, put the unwanted down. problem solved.
shame they cant put down unwanted people (like you) too
was that supposed to be for the sh*t right wingers say thread?
haha no, it was just before I saw the nonsense comment he made
Unlike the golden globe of humanitarianism that you just burped up. Hitler!
Dog-haters are worse than Hitler. At least Hitler ate what he killed.
rightwingers love dogs, more than people
Then i must be further right, then David Quinn.
“The more I learn about people, the more I love my dog”
– Mark Twain
Still kind of gobsmacked that there are people out there getting dogs for Christmas. I figured the idea that it was gross and irresponsible had reached 100% cultural saturation at this stage.
I have never, in my entire life, personally known or heard second-hand of anyone getting a dog for Christmas.
My siblings and I got a dog for our parents who had been bereaved for a long time. The dog (given for christmas 2 years ago) is a wonderful, loved pet and part of the household. Huge amounts of thought and consideration were given (due to the proliferation of the cultural saturation you mentioned), but it doesn’t mean that there are no good Christmas dog stories around. Just far too many unfortunate ones for comfort…I will be making a donation to dogs trust before Christmas to support their good work.
Also – long bereaved – by the loss of their previous dog!
You’re hoping that this dog will be of the immortal kind so? It won’t, ergo more bereavement – Hitler!
Yeah – in giving a pet a wonderful, full life with both love and happiness, I am in fact, comparable to one of the greatest genocidal dictators of the 20th century. I feel so ashamed…thank you. You have shown me the error of my ways.
Is Ireland the only country in Europe where people just let their little Loneliness Mascots pee and poo all over urban area’s where people have to live and work?
No. Not even close.
In Belgium it’s considered lucky around christmas time to let the children roll about in what they call sh!tty jimmy’s lost fingers.
Belgium the land of the paedophile, must copy them when it comes to child safety
Errrr, I think Ireland needs to be very careful about when it starts accusing other countries of having problems of the kiddy-fiddling variety…
Touché
I do not claim to be Ireland, but if…………
So along with all the sh*t they drop around the place, we have to look at cardboard cut-outs as well? They’re pests – stop them from breeding and cull the excess. It works for the deer population.
It’s the owners who are pests, moron. Unless you genuinely think dogs possess sufficient capacity for malice of forethought when it comes to public defecation.
Some of them do, Mani! I used to have one who used domestic defecation to punish me for perceived wrongs, like bathtime.
He’s talking about dogs not spouses!
Are you sure they weren’t just repeating behaviour they’d witnessed in the boudoir?
Ah here, lads …
Let the record show the witness did not answer the question.
True Mani, I was having a lunch on the canal bank during our fine summer past, when a owner let his beast have a mega “Hounds of the Basketville sh*t” a mere three feet away and then tried to walk away without cleaning his dog’s monumental steaming pile.
If you take the view that living with a dog is basically like living with a small child (except the dog never grows up and moves out), then you’ll have an idea of the commitment involved. A dog IS for life, and I can’t believe people haven’t got this message yet. Clever campaign by Dogs Trust.
dog litter along the canal…..
Who can’t afford t’feed a dog ffs.
Ah’ da baba
Would ya look at ‘im
Da’ dotie doggie bowwow
Line the owners up along the canal the next time
“Very Annoying”
Dogs are the best. Anyone who doesn’t like dogs is part of a sinister fringe if you ask me.
Its an act of violence not to love dogs, bloody terrorists
Aw the poor dogs, I wish people would think long and hard before getting one.
I wanted so much to knick one of these when i was passing this morning. Any bichons?
The “I grew too big” one broke my heart.
I didn’t see where that was erected
Near Biffins bridge..
Make dog licenses €1000 and enforce them. Problem solved.
