and d22 coz the local litter warden couldn’t be bothered to do his job and is more interested in catching people leaving their cardboard boxes at bottle banks than dumping bags along the roads.

So stop leaving your cardboard boxes at the place where bottles are collected. Don’t be so f*cking lazy and go to a bring centre.

We need to bring back council bin collection, renationalise. This dumping is because of privatization.

No, it’s because people are being dickheads.

The solution to the problem is people stopping being dickheads.

This never happened prior to privatization. I live in the area. It was only after they introduced bin fees people couldn’t afford to pay.

The privatisation was a mess, and Greyhound are crap.
However, the main link between the privatisation and subsequent illegal dumping is that the private companies will not collect without payment. DCC was losing millions every year because they had to collect the rubbish whether it was paid for or not. It could possibly be argued that this situation was allowed to develop to facilitate privatisation, but it seems logical that the people who are fly-tipping are the same people who weren’t paying their collection fees before privatisation. Personal responsibility does have a part to play.

…So your argument is because a service when from being supplied by the state, paid for by council rates, to a number of private operators, paid for via point of purchase or direct debt, it resulted in dumping? The only difference is the form of payment with the latter being one of free choice. I’m not saying you’re wrong, I’m just saying it’s a pretty depressing thought, that as a nation, we can’t even give some people the option and we have to force payment to avoid things like dumping.

I think the point is that there is a huge group of people who cannot be relied upon to ‘do the right thing’ Thats where central or local government comes in. Thinking that privatising rubbish collection is a great idea, and then being shocked when people fly-tip is bizarre.

This has always happened even before privatization.
People are so small minded they would rather skulk around leaving their rubbish anywhere instead of paying a few bob. This is why we need to tax anything that moves, water, cars, people, newspapers, fast-food

Litter louts probably can’t read either but that’s not their fault too! Probably would claim to be proud dubs too, no responsibility at all.

i know for a factoid that it’s only country people who litter in dublin. they come up on the 8th with their years supply of rasher and puddin wrappers and dump them willy-nilly round the streets of dublin*.

*no culchie’s were harmed in the making of this allegation.
