Traditionally in my home it was “evening of the 6th after the kids had gone to bed”

If you’re superstitious take it down on the 6th, if you don’t give a shit about superstition take it down any time.

I’m sure there is some “reason” to take it down on the 6th, but I couldn’t be arsed googling it.

I took my tree down yesterday, cos that’s how I roll.

Jeez. How big is your gaff that you need a whole day to take down your decos?

        Its pretty small.
But we go hard at christmas.

Also I’m not leaving an undecorated tree in my living room and I’m not dragging the feckin thing down to the recycling on a work night.

‘When Julius Caesar established his calendar in 45 BC he set 25 March as the spring equinox.[citation needed] Because a Julian year (365.25 days) is slightly longer than an actual year the calendar drifted with respect to the equinox, such that the equinox was occurring on about 21 March in AD 300 and by AD 1500 it had reached 11 March’

            sigh.,…
“I heard the first equinox after the spring solstice”
Solstices are the longest and shortest days of the year, during mid winter and mid Summer. Spring and Autumn only have equinoxes, not solstices.

I hear you just feckin’ leave the whole lot up and have no visitors for the year. Nobody would be any the wiser.

    1. Spaghetti Hoop

Mine is a mere 80cm tall. It took all of 2 minutes last Saturday to put back in its box. Shame the same can’t be said of some folk….

          1. LiamZero

It’s a bit cold in here, OK?! This doesn’t usually happen to Spaghetti Hoop, it’s the first time in fact…

This ‘Ask a Broadsheet Reader’ bit has shown to be a great success. Who’d have thought it…

Candlemas is a different thing altogether…. All decorations must be taken down on the 12th night…. that was yesterday evening – the 5th….. the math ‘ain’t hard….. The whole 12 days before and 12 days after is incorrect….

6th for self aware faux religious middle class types who care what the neighbours think.

End of January for working class who love the bit of sparkle to brighten up their otherwise grey lives.

    1. GiGi

      That’d be me then…

Neighbours took down theirs last night as they were gone this morning. Obviously I’m trying to hold out a bit longer. Love a bit of sparkle me…. it must be my workin class roots. : )
