Staying In Tomorrow?

Norah’s Traveller Academy.

Yes.

Melanie O’Connor writes:

For each of the four young Traveller women featured, the mentoring process represents an unprecedented and revealing journey of personal discovery. In the course of their training, the four trainees will share their experience and perspectives of the casual prejudice and cultural mores that continue to act as a barrier to independence and business opportunity for travellers in modern Ireland.

This is no ordinary mentoring process. Traditionally, traveller women are consigned to the home and discouraged from the world of business. Few finish school and fewer still progress to third level education. Norah has a unique challenge on her hands. Along with commercial know-how, she’ll have to encourage the confidence and resilience her trainees will need to survive in the business world. …

A novel way of showing the challenges facing women in the travelling community?

Or Pygmalion-style reality sop to misunderstood minority?

The gagman strikes! Do you ever have a normal thought that’s not about deconstructing a sentence for gag potential?
Ps, I pounded her last night.
Ps, Scottser (scattser if I was mani) why would I jump in on a post about a traveller TV show? Clearly my posts go over your head.

+1 Exploitative, same as all of those Gypsy Wedding shows on C4.

Although, we haven’t seen it yet so maybe we shouldn’t jump to conclusions!

The drug, drink or hallucinogen hasn’t been invented that would make me even consider glancing an eye at this.

Turns out we were sitting on TV gold all these years. Channel 4 showed us how to mine it now lets churn it out!!!.

    “Norah Casey (centre)”

I love the way we have to point out which one Norah is

    She’s such a wannabe

“traveller women are consigned to the home and discouraged from the world of business” …that’d be the so called culture then.

Good luck to them, the sooner travellers ditch as much of the so called ‘culture’ they can, the better.

Have we not reached peak traveller yet? for a small minority its soon going to come to the point when all of them will have starred in a reality tv show

Shame on Norah and RTE for being lazy and exploitative.

Is she still on about her fireman boyfriend in the Sindo?

    1. Joe the Lion

why – do you really think anyone would be interested in an equivalent show about snivelling, whinging toads who post on internet message boards?

at least some travellers may be portrayed in a positive light and as regular folks unlike the lazy stereotyping we normally see

is it just me or are there always a certain proportion of negative, derisory douchebags whose inane nancy boy comments have to be posted on this to make up a critical indicator number of idle douchebags that hits some key demographic?

The only thing I know of Norah Casey was from when she did her Newstalk stint, she just has to read the headline of an article to be an expert in it
