The most dangerous animal in Africa charges across the Chobe river in Botswana. filmed by tourist Craig Jackson earlier this month.
Christ. Did one of these boat rides before and was already familiar with the Hippo’s rep and a little nervous so I decided to seek a little comfort from our Kenyan skipper. Not sure of the exact figures but it went a little like this.
Me: Are they dangerous?
Skipper: No, only when they submerge
Me: Huh…I see they’re all submerging
*silence*
Me: How fast can they swim?
Skipper: About 15 knots
Me: How fast is the boat?
Skipper: About 12 knots
*silence*
Skipper: Please return to your seat, we will need to balance
Me: Yes, sir
Was on a boat journey to an island off Guatemala when a storm blue up and things got very scary. All the locals fell silent and wore a look of absolute fear. It was one of the worst experiences of my life.
