One of the Jounalist on Football Weekly is trying to taste 500 Craft beers in 2015.
“Welcome to Fun…with Flags”
(fair play to him, nice idea)
Please tell me the old school boombox on top of the shelves will make an appearance in the videos at some point?
I’ve tasted a lot of irish craft beers and can’t say I’ve really enjoyed any of them. Some were grand and I’ve ordered a second but most taste like socks. The Belgians do it right-try any of the Chimay’s, particularly the blue.
i’ve been very impressed by o’hara’s lean foilleann stout. also the craft stuff they have in lidl from the crafty brewery is great, especially the stout.
Surnburnt Red is quite nice, if you like red ale.
Beoir Corca Duibhne’s selection is excellent if very pricey.
O’ Hara’s Pale Ale (Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow) and Franciscan Well Red Ale (Cork) are both really nice.
Tried Franciscan red in kinsale last week and it’s probably my favourite irish beer so far but still only ok-gets a bit tangy.
Thought O’Haras was muck.
Leave us Irish to whiskey and let the Belgians or Germans look after the beer.
With the obvious exception of Guinness, which is delicious when you’re in the mood for one.
True
Ding, I’ve noticed that any pints of O’ Hara’s I’ve had which tasted ‘tangy’, was because no one else in the pub was drinking it at the time, so now, if there’s no one else drinking it, I always ask the staff pour off a pint, to clear the stuff from the lines – although, they don’t like doing it, I’ve been on the receiving end of dirty looks and a couple of smart comments for making such a request.
Sorry, I just re-read your comments, and I thought you were referring to O’ Hara’s, nevertheless, my point still stands regarding Franciscan Well.
How do you know when a hipster is having a craft beer?
He’ll tell you.
too true, as this video shows

Though to be fair, Bud light is rank.
Aye. Inject it back into the donkey.
Only a hipster would complain about hipsters….
Blacks of Kinsale are excellent Irish craft beers..the black IPA is quality
Oh yeah black IPA is the shizzle alright and Black’s get it spot on!

Amber Ella from Eight Degrees /http://www.eightdegrees.ie/our-beers/
Very, very special.
Amber-Ella…The finest beer I have ever tasted.
Eight Degrees and Kinnegar are great breweries.
if you like amber ella, see of you can track down American Amber from wicklow wolf brewer. another beauty.
I don’t think he’s trying to taste every Irish “craft” beer available, I think he’s just trying to taste every Irish beer available. Nice idea, but it’ll be actually quite a difficult taste when you consider the amount of seasonal specials that are now being released by some of the micro breweries. Unless of course he just means the bottled versions.
I’ve tasted 2,746 beers to date with 259 of those being from Ireland. He has a bit to go! :-)
