It must be great to have so much free time on their hands. Travelling around disrupting people from doing their job just because they are too useless to have one themselves.

    ‘Dun Laoghaire’s not paying’
who do they think *is* paying? is it paid with magic fairy dust that angela merkel sprinkles on enda’s head?

Perhaps they think that paying it twice already, through General taxation and the levy on motor tax is enough and that having to pay for it a third time is absurd.

I don’t pay and Income Tax , I also don’t own a car . Are people really so delighted to be paying for my water?

Judging by the rather large deficit the government is currently running, you could argue that neither of those things are paying for it at the moment and that the state is borrowing to keep the water running at the current basic requirement.

Well, given the country is running what’s called a “primary surplus” – the annual State income in taxes collected and suchlike, is greater than annual State day-to-day expenditure like social welfare and public sector wages. Our deficit arises because we’re paying so much interest on a national debt, a significant chunk of which was run up to bail out the banks. And didn’t the FG/Labour government promise to try to get the bill for the bank bailout reduced? Where’s that promised “game changer”?

We spend over €600m on Foreign Aid each year from out taxes. That’s a cut that wouldn’t affect a single Irish citizen with the stroke of a pen. What other useless stuff is paid out of the exchequer that can be cut back on?? €600m would fix a lot of pipes.

Yeah, those fighter jets Uganda was able to afford, yet still needed aid from Ireland, will come in handy for natural disasters.

    3. Small Wonder

So if motor tax is going on water the roads are only being paid for once?! General taxation of people who don’t clog the roads with cars to subsidise those who do. This is an outrage!

    4. Clampers Outside!

OK, well on the whole ‘we pay already’ bit.

Will you admit we don’t pay enough?

And would you then be happy to just increase those taxes to pay for it?

Or are you like the Shinners and have no proposal how to make up the deficit…. I’d like to know more.

What if you have a private supply which you have to pay for? And you’re then paying income tax and motor tax on top??

Compare to retired urban pensioner on defined benefits from say career in Department of Finance (i.e. handy number) – or a lifetime on the scratcher? No money worries, free travel (no need for car) no water charges

My God, is this what the Republic has come to? Citizens offering to help citizens against an unwanted government initiative. By what? offering posters and to stand peacefully with their fellow citizens if asked. Fascists! Shure you wouldn’t find it in Nazi Germany.

Jesus will you howiyas ever get over it, some of us have been paying for water since the 70s you backward clowns

  6. Atlas

Yeah… nah. At least three of those areas are way too middle class to be opposing water charges. Keep dreaming.

Here look, right? Anyone from South County Dublin shouldn’t be allowed to protest because some people in the area have money. As such, all south Dubs, especially those in Ballybrack, Rosemount, Irishtown, and Balally, should be forced to pay three times for water. Ya bloody rugby playing, mocha drinking protestants.

Another point, some people already pay for water, yeah? Therefore, we all should suck it (ta f**k) up and just pay. Country Bumpkins (and northsiders) (the REAL Irish) for life!

    I’m really intelligent and persuasive, amn’t I?
