Fluoride? I thought she was protesting against Femen, who’ve ruined it for sexed-up protesting in general by going too far.

If I was pedantic, I’d be pointing out that you missed a comma or two in that witty reply.
Also, your misquote makes no sense and damages Mr. O’Reilly’s good name, letting people think he’d come up with a line such as that.

I put it to you, that it is in fact yourself who is the gobspoo.

It’s actually funny how a group of people so quick to sneer at religion can be so ignorant and dogmatic. Smug anti-science circle jerkers

except one side are scientists that use independent peer reviewed research and the other side uses their “feelings”

except one side has the overwhelming support of the WHO, the US CDC, Surgeon General etc etc

If you made the same stuff up bout climate change you’d be called a denier. Ditto vaccinations. Ditto homosexuality as a choice

whatever you may think about bikinis…this woman is correct…irish tap water is not safe to drink…there is a toxic chemical being Added to it which is a by-product of industrial waste…called fluoride…it is Not allowed to be added to the tap water of Any other country in the EU because it’s not safe and its against a persons human rights to mass Medicare without consent…this toxin causes depression thyroid dysfunction arthritis Alzheimer’s and cancer…it is also used in rat poison to kill rats…doctors in Holland got it banned proving it causes diseases…banned in Sweden…never allowed in France or Austria…15 Nobel scientific laureates have said its toxic and should never be allowed to be added to tap water…and FG admitted pre election that it was causing serious diseases and said that once they got in they would stop adding it. See the people against fluoride Facebook page and you tube channel for more info

    1. Clampers Outside!

      ” because it’s not safe ”

HAHAHAHAHAHA…. I love it when people make stuff up. It’s banned in many countries, like Germany, because it is already ADDED to foodstuffs like salt, so there is no need to add it to water.

Holland did not ban it for causing diseases, they banned it because of a civil rights objection.

Have you any more lies because it’s fun pointing out your tinfoil hat nonsense claims?

      1. pauly

“see anti fluoride facebook page or youtube for info” or look at independently peer reviewed articles instead

      2. curmudgeon

You are obviously a fool but alas I’ll do my best; the argument against fluoride is sound and succinct. There are only two issues so it should be simple enough for you to grasp. Fluoride addition to water is medicating the people without asking for consent, this really has no come back. Secondly the argument that it is necessary for dental health is invalid since fluoride is only beneficial as a topical application (i.e in toothpaste which is not to be swallowed) as it is in fact a poison.

        1. Joe the Lion

“Fluoride addition to water is medicating the people without asking for consent, this really has no come back.”

          – So the government should not have ANY role in helping the public PROCURE SAFE DRINKING WATER? Let the rats and cows piss and shit in the well and please please can I have a go at your raw sewage? No comeback you say?

“Secondly the argument that it is necessary for dental health is invalid since fluoride is only beneficial as a topical application (i.e in toothpaste which is not to be swallowed) as it is in fact a poison.”

          – Many poisons in limited doses are beneficial to human health. Your counter argument fails as it is founded on an invalid premise.

          1. ABM's Bloodied Underwear

Those are the worst counter arguments I’ve read in a long time.
No more Ding Dong corrections for you.

        2. Clampers Outside!

No, flouride in the right doses is harmless and is still added to foods. It’s also in tea among many other naturally occuring products.

What gets my goat up is when idiots run around making spurious claims of harm done by flouride and then quote studies, like that one mentioned in China yesterday and those people purposefully neglect to mention facts such as….
          1) The study was conducted in a highly polluted area with other chemicals in the danger areas.
          2) And more specifically, they ignore that the levels were between and 10 to 20 times higher than recommended.

Listen, for your own benefit, don’t drink tea because it sounds like the loolas are already tripping out on the naturally occurring LSD in that beverage !

So… the above should be enough of a rebuttal on your second point.

On your first point, naturally, a people should decide that. But they should have accurate and correct information and not this nonsense when they are given an opportunity to make that decision. So, we’re in agreement there…. just I want facts to inform my decision, not the feckin’ nonsense :)

One of the comments has this link:

It lists fluoride as a neurotoxic agent. Lead is there, also. Do you remember when lead was in paint and in petrol? At some stage, people thought it was OK to have lead in these things. It wasn’t in the Dark Ages, if was a few decades ago.

Fluoride is not a vaccine. It is not saving us from polio or small pox. It reduces the number of cavities by a small amount. I say big deal, not worth the risk. if you care so much about cavities, ban sugary drinks.

        1. ReproBertie

Do you know why they removed lead from paint and petrol? Because science pointed out the danger.

Science has repeatedly pointed out the lack of danger in adding low levels of flouride to water. In fact, science has time and time again pointed out the benefits of adding flouride to drinking water.

          1. Formerly known as @ireland.com

I am as much for science as the next person. I also believe it is possible that science will eventually decide that fluoride should not be in water, or that the dose that was considered safe is found to be unsafe.

The facts won’t change but it might take science (humans doing studies) a while to learn the facts.

          2. Formerly known as @ireland.com

“Do you know why they removed lead from paint and petrol? Because science pointed out the danger.”

“In the 2nd century BCE the Greek botanist Nicander described the colic and paralysis seen in lead-poisoned people.[20][23] Dioscorides, a Greek physician who lived in the 1st century CE, wrote that lead makes the mind “give way”.

So, lead was put into petrol, even though science of over 2,000 years ago, was aware that it was unsafe.

          3. ReproBertie

Humans have been doing studies for quite a while and are still happy with the results of adding flouride to drinking water.

For example, surveys have been conducted on a regular basis to measure the effectiveness of water fluoridation in the Republic of Ireland including:
National Survey of Children’s Dental Survey 1984
National Survey of Adult’s Oral Health 1990
Regional Surveys of Children’s Oral Health 1990-1999
National Survey of Adult’s Oral Health 2001
All-Island Survey of Children’s Oral Health 2002 (which included a comparison with
            caries levels in Northern Ireland)
Cross-Border Study of impact of water fluoridation in 16 year olds, 2006
All of these studies showed a substantial benefit in terms of the reduction in tooth
            decay experience.

On top of those surveys, the Food Safety Authority carried out a risk assessment, which was published in a peer reviewed journal in 2004.

Ireland has an Expert Body on Fluorides and Health which has broad
representation from areas such as dentistry, biochemistry, toxicology, environmental health and public health medicine.

Here’s a quote from their 2013 response to questiosn raised by Dublin City Council: The Expert Body considers new evidence and keeps the effects of fluoridation on health and related matters under constant review. It is satisfied that water fluoridation, at its optimal level, causes no ill effects to the health of adults or children.

Shoud we really dismiss the repeated scientific findings of these experts because an angel therapist in her underwear said so?

          4. Formerly known as @Ireland.com

Shouldn’t we wait until the studies are completed, before we put it in our water?

          5. ReproBertie

That’s the beauty of science. The studies never stop. Unlike angel therapy or religion science is constantly questioning findings. The findings to date are all good. The benefits of adding flouride to water are repeatedly confirmed by all those studies. We would be doing the population a disservice by ignoring the overwhelming scientific evidence just because people who don’t understand science, but claim to communicate with other-worldly beings nobody else can see, are afraid that something might go wrong at some unspecified point in the future.

        2. Clampers Outside!

Cheers I’ll have a proper read later…. but one thing I did notice from a quick scan of those chemicals is that very many are used in various treatments…. all dose dependent of course, which is my point.
The naysayers never talk about dosage…

Studies in Switzerland proved fluoride causes cancer. Tests on rats proved it causes cancer. Doctors in Harvard last year in the medical journal describe fluoride as a dangerous neurotoxin that causes brain development problems in children and they classified it in the same dangerous bracket as arsenic and lead! 1 in 3 irish people will be diagnosed with a thyroid problem…I was one of them..those figures are off the Richter scale compared to rest of Europe…fluoride depleted iodine and thus causes thyroid dysfunction. In uk newspapers yesterday front page…doctors in Kent said fluoride is responsible for the high thyroid and depression problems. Any person that thinks this stuff is safe is extremely ill informed and uneducated

    1. ReproBertie

Here’s a quote from your Harvard report:
The exposed groups had access to drinking water with fluoride concentrations up to 11.5 mg/L; thus, in many cases concentrations were above the levels recommended (0.7–1.2 mg/L; DHHS) or allowed in public drinking water (4.0 mg/L; U.S. EPA) in the United States.

Levels in Ireland are between 0.6mg/L and 0.8mg/L.

      1. ReproBertie

From the EU’s Scientific Committee on Health and Environmental Risks Critical review of any new evidence on the hazard profile, health effects, and human exposure to fluoride and the fluoridating agents of drinking water

The occurrence of endemic skeletal fluorosis has not been reported in the EU general population.
There is not sufficient evidence linking fluoride in the drinking water to the development of osteosarcoma.
Fluoride intake from drinking water at the level occurring in the EU does not appear to hamper children’s neurodevelopment and IQ levels.

      Thanks for the informative comment

    1. ReproBertie

That’s an interesting report. One quote in particular jumps out “we found a significantly higher prevalence of hypothyroidism in areas with high fluoride levels (>0.7 mg/L) compared with those with fluoride levels of 0.7 mg/L and below”.

In England flouride in drinking water is at 1 mg/L. Levels in Ireland are between 0.6mg/L and 0.8mg/L our water would be borderline for increasing levels of hypothyroidism. It might be worth reviewing the levels again but no doubt the Expert Body on Fluorides and Health, who review the scientific data, are already looking at this.

That flouride has an effect on the throyid is not news. Flouride was used to treat the thyroid in the early part of the 20th century.

      1. Don Pidgeoni

Only about 10% of the UK population has artificially fluoridated water. For others it occurs naturally.

      2. Formerly known as @ireland.com

“That flouride has an effect on the throyid is not news.”

A bit like lead being bad is not news, but somehow, it was in our petrol and paint for a long time.

Do you really think that saving the odd cavity is worth the risk of causing other impacts?

If you do, where do you stand on sugary drinks?

    2. pauly

a stufy by a well known anti flioride nut on thyroid which never considers or looks at iodine defficiencies; the noted main cause of the problem. this study was debunked an hour after it was published!

    3. Don Pidgeoni

There are a lot of things that haven’t been considered in this study, which bias the findings. It may suggest a link but it is a small one and might disappear once other factors are considered (which the authors point out).
