What you may need to know:

1. The sitcom that refuses to die is BACK!

2. Community has seemingly been upon the verge of cancellation since it debuted – it finally got the chop, whereupon Yahoo picked it up for their Yahoo Screen platform.

3. Series creator (and mad genius) Dan Harmon was sacked after Season 3, then rehired for Season 5, whereupon he spent a decent amount of time slagging off the seriously iffy Season 4.

4. Original cast member Chevy Chase walked after a spat with Harmon. Donald ‘Troy’ Glover left last season, along with Yvette Nicole Brown (AKA Shirley) – that said, we hear Chevy’s coming back for a cameo. Even though his character is dead.

5. Seasons 1-5 are on Netflix. Binge IMMEDIATELY.

6. Guest stars this time out include Matt ‘Toast Of London’ Berry and STEVE GUTTENBERG.

7. We say: Six seasons and a movie? Nearly there.

Release Date: March 17  (via Yahoo Screen)

Having watched most of season one, I respectfully disagree. I think it’s very entertaining but not in same league as Curb or Seinfeld. “Smarter” than Modern Family, but not as funny. A lot like Arrested Development, obviously, given the connections. No-one else seems to watch it though, so who knows.

It is funny, sorry for your troubles. Season 3 is it at it’s peak, and even season 5 had three amazing episodes.

That trailer yizzer have up is the initial announcement of the series from last year, this is the real thing: http://youtu.be/WtbBqJez33k

(Not an official Yahoo Screen link as that’s geo-locked because only Americans are allowed to watch Community, obv)

Looks exceptionally-good, this weird show deserves a bigger audience.

Absolutely, the episode about the ass-crack bandit is one of the best they’be ever done.

I just can’t get on board with Community. Don’t know what it is, but people rave and rave about it and I’m just over here not getting it. Arrested Development though…… now THERE’S a show!

While we’re on the subject, did anyone here get through AD season 4? Bar a few moments, it just hasn’t been fun to watch for me. I’ve been assured that it’s worth it, but I just can’t seem to slog through it.

Even if I hated those two I’d get over it. First three seasons are the high water mark for TV comedy, in my opinion.

          1. Mani

Eh, I’d go the 2nd and 3rd season of 30 Rock or 3rd and 4th season of Parks and Recreation for high watermark of TV comedy. Plus season 1 of Extra Extra! and Upwardly Mobile.

I hold out high hopes for Rick and Morty, season 2. And The Last Man on Earth is genius, albeit only two episodes out so far.

          2. Squiggleyjoop

2nd season of arrested development is one of the best in comedy, endlessly re watchable too. I’ve stupidly high hopes for season 2 of Rick and Morty. Possibly the strongest first season I’ve ever seen.

I liked Season 4. It’s a bit jarring to see how the characters have aged – STEVE HOLT! – and the jokes maybe aren’t quite as sharp but the way the storylines come together as the season goes on is pretty impressive. And like the rest of AD, its fantastically re-watchable.

        1. Mick Flavin

That’s what I’ve heard, but as I watch it I can’t help but compare it to the first three, seriously to its detriment.
          I’ll get through it eventually.

It was like a zombie show. There was an uncanny superficial resemblance but something was not quite right.

      2. Caroline

I gave up on it, which I don’t normally mention to people as I assume it’s a massive flaw in my personality and I don’t like to discuss those.

If they recut it chronologically I might give it another go.

        1. Custo

Yeah that would help. I stopped after 3 episodes I think. A huge disappointment after watching the first three seasons about a billion time each.

          1. Caroline

Yah but what if he gets distracted by a delicious sandwich or a box set of Slings & Arrows or something.

Well I’m a peanut bar and I’m here to say
Your checks will arrive on another day
Another day, another dime, another rhyme, another dollar
Another stuffed shirt with another white collar
Criminals, Wall Street takin’ the pie
And all the black man gets is a plate o’ white lies
Prisons recruitin’ em and police be shootin’ em
And rap artists lootin’ em and labels are dilutin’ em
And Barack Obama be scared o’ me
Cuz I don’ swallow knowledge and I spit it fo’ free
    Lemme clear my throat, ha-ha-haaa!

Such an amazing moment, jaw dropping the first time I saw it. And then I rewatched it and noticed Gillian Jacobs looked at the camera briefly, as if to say “dafuq?”

What puzzles me more than the popularity of Community is the comparisons drawn between it and Arrested Development. The first three seasons of AD set a ‘high watermark’ for TV comedy that has not been matched since (with the exception of Curb which I feel is a completely different animal) and stylistically is it worlds apart. AD had so much subtle satire, in jokes and hidden humour (as well as countless laugh out loud moments) in a time before Buzzfeed and clickbait sites (10 THINGS YOU MISSED ON LAST NIGHTS EP OF…etc.) which made it worth watching more than once (or twice). Admittedly season 4 was a let down, everything that made the first 3 seasons funny was lost in 4. Every overlapping storyline, nuance and joke was really spelled out for you.

I will never understand what people find funny about Parks and Recreation.

    1. Gaz

Parks and rec is well worth a watch. Admittedly the first season is really shit but it’s only six 20 min episodes. After that, it gets so much better. The best thing about it is, it didn’t go stale. The last season is one of the best!

      1. Joe835

Parks & Rec is good but has a very bad case of writers using lazy storylines involving gift-giving to show someone is a thoughtful person. It’s very prevalent, I think there’s a P&R drinking game to be devised around downing a shot every time someone says “I got you a little something”. Honestly, you’d be gee-eyed* in no time.

*Fun fact: Retta (Donna Meagle from P&R) knows what this means because she tweeted extensively on a visit to Dublin and used it a lot

        1. Gaz

Can’t believe I missed Retta in Dublin!!

It’s really only Leslie who does the “I got you a little something” but it’s a character trait. Like Joey saying ‘How you doin?’

        2. Kieran NYC

Whether you like the show or not, everyone would have to admit that dinner/drinks with the cast would be an absolute howl.
