SO LONGS AS DE DON’T REPOSE TOO MANY OULD HOTELS SO THE SOCIAL HAVE SOMEWHERE TO PUT THEM UP FOR THE NEXT 10 YEARS

And what about us that DIDN’T overstretch ourselves for mortgages, pumping up the bubble and rented eh? Why should they get to live in their houses for free while I see my rent go up and up and house prices kept artificially high because banks cant/wont repossess? Where’s my NAMA?

      1. ahjayzis

Who said anything about letting them live there for free?
You could do a mortgage to rent scheme.
You could repossess but then free them of any remaining debt – non recourse – so they can be productive consumers and rent a new place.
        You could stretch the loan.

Evicting them and then insisting they continue paying their mortgage for the house they don’t have anymore doesn’t help anyone – you still pay to house them.

Also ‘Where’s my NAMA’ is a childlike whine, worthy of no respect. You’re not the one suffering.

  2. YourNan

what’s the problem here, they should be thankful they don’t owe money to Tony Soprano.

  3. Eoghany

For me it’s simple. I feel really sorry for families being thrown out of their modest homes, a lot of the time through no fault of their own. I have no sympathy for families being thrown out of their grand stately homes, the million euro gafs… If they cannot afford them, they should live in normal houses like the rest of us.

      +1

When you’re rich, bankruptcy means you come down a ‘class’. If you’re poor, bankruptcy ,eans you lose everything and are on the street.

The bottom should be fairer, rather than deeper for the poorest.

  4. Mister Mister

How many are family homes, and how many are investment properties ?

I know a family who have been paying their rent for years. They get a letter saying the bank has taken possession of the house next month so they’ll have to move out.

WTF was the landlord doing with the money they were paying on a monthly basis for years ?

    1. pedeyw

That’s surprising. I would have assumed that repossessing banks would be obliged to honour existing leases.

    1. Keith

Not really about the same thing but do the Courts Service really use Lotus Notes to store all of this stuff?! Very old school.

  5. Ms Piggy

this is completely speculative (and could just be explained away by the formatting of the list as surnames were redacted) but it looks like all of them are actions against single individuals. If any significant % of these houses were primary residences, wouldn’t we expect to see more of them in joint ownership? Of course lots of single people own and live in their own home, I’m not suggesting they don’t, but if this list is accurate there are NO couples on the list. Which would imply investment properties, possibly?

    1. Dubloony

Actually there are lots of couples on the fully named list.

Judges in this country are very reluctant to evict anyone, repossession is a last resort.
After years of forbearance, its quite possible that all other processes have been exhausted.
Or people who were failing to engage with banks will hopefully come to their senses.

Very difficult for the people concerned.

      1. Ms Piggy

Ah, thanks for correcting that! Yes I’m very sorry for anyone who loses their own home (assuming it is their only home and not a mansion they feel mysteriously entitled to). I’m sorry for those who lose investment properties too if they tried to do the right thing, but they’re businesses and it’s not quite the same as losing their homes.

    1. Toni The Exotic Dancer

The Hub, who are organising the protest in Limerick are affiliated to these clowns. They are a splinter group who broke away from the New Land League. You couldn’t make this stuff up….

  6. Zuppy International

    Banks got bailed out.

Now they expect to be paid twice for the same debt.

    That’s some scam.

    1. Dubloony

What do you think should happen? People who haven’t / can’t / won’t pay should just be able to live rent and mortgage free without consequence?

    2. pedeyw

Something seems very simplistic and incorrect about your statement. I don’t really understand banking though, so I guess I don’t have a leg to stand on here.

    3. trueblueterry

Hold on do you actually think that the banks don’t have to pay back the bailout?

  7. sycamoreal

    The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
The year is 1898,2015 and Mina Murray Gerry Beades is recruited by Campion Bond Brian O’Donnell on behalf of British Intelligence busted property developers and asked to assemble a league of other extraordinary individuals to protect the interests of the Empire rich on borrowed money

    1. Toni The Exotic Dancer

There are a huge number of property owners taking the p!ss by choosing not to pay. 8 years after the crash and still no Repo’s. I would love to have been living rent/mortgage free. Just think of all the money you could be saving. Not fair on those who are paying their way.

      1. Jimbob

Yeah. Fupping freeloaders on the scratcher.. Hang on a minute, they got and made mortgage payments at some point and most likely contributed some percentage of the value of the house as a deposit, how are they taking the piss exactly? I think you’re taking the piss dude.

Wouldn’t it be difficult to get another mortgage again? Where are they gonna live?
I am not sure you have thought this one through fully, ya pea-brain.. no offence like.
