Woo ok so is there any good DJ’s in town tonight cause this is going to be one hell of a party. Sure what am i saying your man from aphex twin is in town, someone call him cause s**t is about to get wild.

If they made sticking someone’s hand in a fire, legal for a day, would you go out and do that all day?

        1. Drogg

Why would you stick your hand in a fire? that just stupid, You do realise pills are relatively harmless and are also great craic.

          1. Buzz

So all those ecstacy deaths we’ve been reading about over the years were of natural causes?

          2. ZeligIsJaded

Very few deaths have occurred as a result of ecstasy when compared to almost any other drug.

          3. Drogg

Also most of the people who have died had underlying conditions which if they where legal could easily be warned against. What is it they say your more likely to choke on a piece of lettuce then die from taking a pill. Maybe yis should stop quoting scaremongering redtops and look at actual research.

@Drogg “But the drug still posed risks, he said. “Ecstasy consumption is dangerous because illegally made pills often contain contaminants that can have harmful side-effects.” From the Guardian piece you linked to.

A debate on legalisation is to be welcomed, but this notion that currently available pills are de facto health foods with zero risk and all up-side is fanciful and misleading. The best advice to anyone tempted to buy an unknown substance from a chancer in a pub and eat it, is DON’T.

          5. Drogg

Not at all i think history is proven people will not, not take drugs. I think educating people on the possible side effects (the real ones now not the blown out of proportion ones you’d see in the daily mail) how to deal with them and the freedom to seek medical attention if needed without fear of prosecution. Also i never said they where some crazy health alternative, everything you put into your body has dangers but to be honest this one has a lot less dangers then most believe.

            @newsjustin

            That’s terrible advice.

Best advice is Eat a little bit, and if you start floating, eat the rest!’

          7. Miq

Depression, anxiety, panic attacks c a be caused by misuse of ecstasy. They’re not relatively harmless.

          8. scottser

there’s little enough wrong with mdma as such, it’s the poo they pass off for it like bzp or pyrovalerone that’ll do you in.

What does legal coffee drinker have to say about this, or have they gone on to harder stuff for one day only?

Seriously though, how does this affect convictions for people who were caught in possession in the past?

    1. ZeligIsJaded

Drugs kill children, sound people and puppies so we’ll invent some nonsense and convict them for crimes against innocence!

At least that’s what should happen.

Imagine something called ecstasy being legal?. Jeezis!!

    2. Chompsky

Thanks Coxswain Lovalot, Bodger is on the phone to LCD about this pressing matter. Transcript to follow.

Surely it would only apply if you were caught with it today before they close up the loophole?

        1. Owen

All the people caught with E for the next few weeks will be playing the ‘I thought they were now legal’, and ‘I bought them last Tuesday’ etc. It is a good question though, if there will be any old conviction overturned. If they are I suspect they will not be made overly public.

          1. Don Pidgeoni

You could try the “I bought them Tuesday between 10 and 4” defence for sure but not if you had been caught with them on Monday – the loophole wouldn’t be in effect then

          1. Ronan

I read somewhere it was deemed unconstitutional under article 15 as in, the executive can’t be lawmakers. Am I right? Even still, previous convictions will stand. Any argument will be met with, ‘you never mentioned anything at the time’.

          2. Atticus

From the article in the original post:

“The Dáil is to sit late this evening to pass emergency laws, after a court said the previous law banning ecstasy and so-called ‘headshop drugs’ was unconstitutional.

          3. All the good ones fly south for winter

…if youve ever wanted to make money selling small plastic bags of junior disprin to idiots in the city centre ..now is your chance…

  4. mthead

If you can tax them, they’ll be legal, otherwise, forget it kids. Now get back to the booze you nation of functioning alcoholics! :)

  5. Jess

21 years to get X case legislation, no appetite for abortion referendum. But people are going to be taking drugs and suddenly you can get legislation in over night?

    1. Drogg

Maybe they want a warning put on all bottles of water consume in moderate doses because Leah Betts died from drinking to much water not from taking pills.

      1. fluffybiscuits

I think you may be half right

        http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4440438.stm

“The teenager died because of “water intoxication”, after consuming more than three litres of water in a very short space of time.

When too much water is consumed, tissue in the body can swell. In the case of the brain, this can lead to seizures, coma and death.

The problem – and the related drop in salt levels, hyponatremia – is more commonly encountered by endurance athletes.

In Leah’s case, excessive water consumption was exacerbated by the ecstasy causing her body to release anti-diuretic hormones, stopping a normal level of urination that could have saved her.”

        Ecstacy contributed.

We should think outside the box and design drugs that give the same feeling, dont become addictive but can still be legalised and taxed.

        1. Drogg

If people had have been educated on the drugs instead of all the crap that used to be spread around about drinking loads of water this would never have happened. How do you even drink 7 litres in that space of time?

          1. Mark Dennehy

Seriously, if you think drinking seven litres of water is odd, you’ve never seen a super big gulp.

And if you think consuming stuff that’s painful to consume is odd, well, youtube the cinnamon challenge sometime.

Seriously. People. Best reason ever for misanthropy…

      2. Mr M

That’s somewhat true, but what caused her to drink too much water? The unbearable temperature that was caused by a reaction to a bad ecstacy tablet sold by Essex Gangsters

        1. Don Pidgeoni

Nope, she was in her house. She did it because she didn’t really know what she was doing. Which is a silly and sad way to die rather than telling people what to expect and how to do it safely.

          1. Mr M

I know exactly where she was.
It was her birthday party and a friend got the E’s from a guy in Raquels Nightclub in Basildon. The ‘door’ was being run by a well known bully and drug dealer who met his own fate shortly after with two other gangsters. Shot in a Range Rover and were only identified by fingerprints. The photos were extremely gruesome.

    2. Atticus

The girl who “consumed about 7 litres (12 pints) of water in less than 90 minutes, resulting in water intoxication and hyponatremia”?

  6. Kolmo

Holy pooballs! Whiskey is Legal now! – lets go next door to the shop and buy enough of it to kill us right now, is what very, very few people are doing, or even ever do.

    1. Drogg

I think you mean is what millions of people world wide are doing on a daily bases. Alcoholism is rife and therepy for combating it needs a lot more funding in this country.
