            So all those ecstacy deaths we’ve been reading about over the years were of natural causes?

            Very few deaths have occurred as a result of ecstasy when compared to almost any other drug.

            Also most of the people who have died had underlying conditions which if they where legal could easily be warned against. What is it they say your more likely to choke on a piece of lettuce then die from taking a pill. Maybe yis should stop quoting scaremongering redtops and look at actual research.

            A debate on legalisation is to be welcomed, but this notion that currently available pills are de facto health foods with zero risk and all up-side is fanciful and misleading. The best advice to anyone tempted to buy an unknown substance from a chancer in a pub and eat it, is DON’T.

            Not at all i think history is proven people will not, not take drugs. I think educating people on the possible side effects (the real ones now not the blown out of proportion ones you’d see in the daily mail) how to deal with them and the freedom to seek medical attention if needed without fear of prosecution. Also i never said they where some crazy health alternative, everything you put into your body has dangers but to be honest this one has a lot less dangers then most believe.

            Depression, anxiety, panic attacks c a be caused by misuse of ecstasy. They’re not relatively harmless.

            there’s little enough wrong with mdma as such, it’s the poo they pass off for it like bzp or pyrovalerone that’ll do you in.

    Seriously though, how does this affect convictions for people who were caught in possession in the past?

      Drugs kill children, sound people and puppies so we’ll invent some nonsense and convict them for crimes against innocence!

      At least that’s what should happen.

        Surely it would only apply if you were caught with it today before they close up the loophole?

          All the people caught with E for the next few weeks will be playing the ‘I thought they were now legal’, and ‘I bought them last Tuesday’ etc. It is a good question though, if there will be any old conviction overturned. If they are I suspect they will not be made overly public.

            You could try the “I bought them Tuesday between 10 and 4” defence for sure but not if you had been caught with them on Monday – the loophole wouldn’t be in effect then

            I read somewhere it was deemed unconstitutional under article 15 as in, the executive can’t be lawmakers. Am I right? Even still, previous convictions will stand. Any argument will be met with, ‘you never mentioned anything at the time’.

    21 years to get X case legislation, no appetite for abortion referendum. But people are going to be taking drugs and suddenly you can get legislation in over night?

      Maybe they want a warning put on all bottles of water consume in moderate doses because Leah Betts died from drinking to much water not from taking pills.

        We should think outside the box and design drugs that give the same feeling, dont become addictive but can still be legalised and taxed.

          If people had have been educated on the drugs instead of all the crap that used to be spread around about drinking loads of water this would never have happened. How do you even drink 7 litres in that space of time?

        That’s somewhat true, but what caused her to drink too much water? The unbearable temperature that was caused by a reaction to a bad ecstacy tablet sold by Essex Gangsters

          Nope, she was in her house. She did it because she didn’t really know what she was doing. Which is a silly and sad way to die rather than telling people what to expect and how to do it safely.

            I know exactly where she was.
            It was her birthday party and a friend got the E’s from a guy in Raquels Nightclub in Basildon. The ‘door’ was being run by a well known bully and drug dealer who met his own fate shortly after with two other gangsters. Shot in a Range Rover and were only identified by fingerprints. The photos were extremely gruesome.

      I think you mean is what millions of people world wide are doing on a daily bases. Alcoholism is rife and therepy for combating it needs a lot more funding in this country.
