They’re both awful but you’d have to wonder who rates Tubbs as the bigger hitter. He’s a shocker. Awkward, pretty fake and worst of all gutless and lacking in real backbone when he had the chance to go nose to nose with some big boys (Brain Cowen comes to mind when he was positively embarrassed to have to ask the questions he did) And did someone say Ray Darcy? The hits just keep on coming.

‘And how did you feel when your husband died?’ is a typical Tubbers question. He lacks sensitivity. BOC is a tw*t but he’s a (very marginally) better interviewer.

I think The Phoenix mentioned this was coming a few weeks back.

In fairness, it’s a bit like hearing the local parish priest is being replaced. The 50+ generation will talk about it, but they’ll still turn up next Sunday morning, no matter who’s up there on the alter.

Well said. Pain in me hole reading about these gobspoos here. Even more boring than the rugby posts

And there was much weeping and gnashing of teeth. I don’t know if I’ll ever come to terms with the shock.

    D’Arcy will be worse.

Definitely. I won’t be watching but it was the inevitability of all this that hurts the most.

  3. Lilly

He said on the Marian Finucane show that he had big ‘news’ to be announced soon. Honestly how could he imagine anyone would give a poo.

The bad old days are back. Opinionated, over-rated and overpaid bighead D’Arcy steps in to replace a decent show simply because RTE have to justify giving him 500K p.a. Brennie’s program was fine.

He’s not worried. He’s gonna be editor of the Sindo anyway, soon. #kerching. Screw you, RTE.

    1. Lilly

He should be worried, the Sindo’s on the way out. Is Ryan Turbridy paying someone in RTE protection money? How else can he survive year in year out, bringing blandness to a new level. Agree Ray D’Arcy is a bore.

Of the three of them – Tubridy, Darcy and O’Connor – Brendan O’Connor is the most lively, chatty (which is good for a chat-show), and natural presenter.

          1. Andyourpointiswhatexactly

That’s damning him with faint praise.
I know BOC of old and he’s not a nice person. Maybe he’s mellowed, though. The extra fat he shed might’ve contained his arrogance/rudeness.

Met him in an early house once. Nowhere near as big a gurner as D’arcy though.

            @Sam – Lol, true.
@Andyourpoint – I know an ex of his and she’s a dose. Birds of a feather I’d say.

That fella would only get a job on telly in the mickey mouse operation that is Rte.

It was like watching a culchie zombie with a charisma bypass learning to read from a teleprompter.

  6. kennedyexitwound

In fairness Rte could do a lot worse than move the Panti show from Capel street to montrose. Bunny doing household hints and Blainaid being the glamorous comic foil, maybe some of the live stage acts from the Gag days reinacted. Panti hosted the biggest live shows with AMI, Powerbubble and of course make and do do and could hardly do any worse than the current crop of presenters.

Seriously, who, with even a shred of life, sits in on a Friday and or Saturday and watches either of these 4th rate shows? And if they have to sit in then they should arms themselves with a remote control in one and and a book in the other.

  8. Soundings

RTE move to deal with UTV/TV3 “Ant and Dec Saturday Takeaway”, which is building an audience of around 200,000 on a Saturday night, with A&D likely to compete for the lionshare of Saturday night TV advertising in a year.

Bennycakes hasn’t been flavour of the month in RTE for some time, Ray D’Arcy is, and is a more sympathetic entertainer.

Benny will be lucky to be hosting a lottery/crappy quiz show in 2016, with Tubs, Kenny, Browne, the Prime Time lot, Gaybo and the British Graham Norton and Jonathan Ross all competing in the talk show format space, there really won’t be much room for Bennycakes.

UTV, TV3 certainly won’t be bidding for his talents. He’s not terrible, he’s occasionally entertaining and sound, 400-500,000 watch him though he rubs many up the wrong way, overall, it’s just he’s a mediocrity in a small pond with intensifying competition.

Brendan O’Connor is comfortable doing tv, there’s nothing more toe curling and cringeful than when the interviewer is uncomfortable on tv / uncomfortable interviewing. Some people are just more suited to radio
