Let me share my story about how I changed mobile provider from #Meteor to #O2 / Three Ireland…

Day 1 Sunday I noticed that O2 had a good Bill Pay Plan with #Iphone6 plus128GB and my old iPhone was getting older and older and my contract with Meteor was due to finish so I decided to move to O2. Spent over €400 on my dream phone and after I filled everything online I read that my new phone would be with me within four working days.

Day 5 Thursday I hadn’t received anything so decided to call Customer Care where I found out after 20 minutes on the phone that they had sent me email with a request for ID scan and credit card statement. Funny thing was I had never received that email.

Day 6 Friday I called them again to make sure that all of the documents were fine just to be told all was good and I should get everything in four days.

Day 10 Tuesday I called them again. A customer service representative told me that she would check it and email me later that day.

Day 11 Wednesday Received email saying that my order was shipped from the warehouse yesterday and I should receive my delivery within the next day or two, I said sweet. I asked for my phone to be delivered to my work. Phone was delivered later on that day after I finished work but that’s no biggie.

Day 12 Thursday Happy Day, I finally received my phone, woohoo, but hold on a second. A new sim card was forgotten to be included in the package. I emailed Customer Care  to be told that they made a mistake. I say OK, I’m a patient person…

Day 16 Monday I emailed  Customer Care, I was little bit frustrated at this stage. But two or three hours later I finally received my package. woohoo, I had waited so long for this day, sweet! However…
1 they gave me new number which made no sense because I was moving my old number.
2 the sim card they put in was Micro sim card which DOES NOT fit into an iPhone

At this stage I was like FUPP IT! Later on that day I called Customer Care and told them that I want my money back and I want nothing to do with company which CAN NOT provide simple service and product! Thank you #ThreeIreland you guys have just lost a customer!

FIGHT!

I seem to be blasting through my credit much faster with 3 despite being on the same package. I could’ve just gone through it quicker this month but if it keeps happening, I’ll have to give them a shout. Anybody else notice this?

Yeah. I noticed that even though I had unlimited data for internet I was still being charged.

They have to give you a new (temporary) number as they will have to port your old number from Meteor to 02/Three. They port your old number onto your new temporary number. Porting shouldn’t take more than 48 hours for bill pay customers once requested.

Regarding your order taking ages, I take it you never read their T’c and C’s regarding their process. Long winded and ridiculous, but all phone operators have to cover themselves e.g. you’re required to show ID and docs in stores too to prove you are who you say you are, buying things on the internet is no different

*I don’t work for 02/Three or any phone company*

I’m not sure why I’m bothering, but let’s just break this down into its constituent complaints:

“they had sent me email with a request for ID scan and credit card statement. Funny thing was I had never received that email.”

It’s quite clearly stated on the 3 website that you need proof of ID and address. When did you think they’d need this? Was the email in your SPAM folder? Cos that’s kinda not their fault.

” I called them again to make sure that all of the documents were fine just to be told all was good and I should get everything in four days.”

This was on Friday. The phone arrived the following Thursday. I have news for you, but in the business world this is 4 days. Saturdays and Sundays don’t count as there is typically no delivery on those days. Had you ordered on the Monday and it arrived on the Friday that’d be the same thing. You ringing on Tuesday thinking it was late was you being naive, at best.

“A new sim card was forgotten to be included in the package.”

If they messed up anywhere it was here, though I’m not sure how much faith I have in the fact that you ticked all the right boxes when ordering to say you needed a new SIM. Regardless the easiest thing to do at this point would have been to go to a local 3 store and get a SIM. You’d have saved yourself another weekend of waiting for post. And again, calling on Thursday and receiving the SIM on Monday morning is not unreasonable.

“1 they gave me new number which made no sense because I was moving my old number.”

If you’ve ever changed providers before you should appreeciate that all SIM cards have a number associated with them – the one they sent had an 083 number associated with it and the first thing that would have happened as part of the porting process is they’d have transferred your number to that SIM. Had they actually sent you a new SIM with your number magically associated to it you’d have felt quite pissed off that your own SIM stopped working in the meantime, and even more pissed off if that SIM disappeared in the post.

“the sim card they put in was Micro sim card which DOES NOT fit into an iPhone”

I’ll give you this, though it does fit in an iPhone 4/4s. But you’d have solved that problem by visiting a 3 store yourself.

“Thank you #ThreeIreland you guys have just lost a customer!”

    I’d say they’re distraught.

You are to be highly commended on such a comprehensive break down of the constituent complaints. I would like to see a Venn diagram or some similar visual aid to enable me to understand further.

I had a similar experience of Three. I ordered a phone. They sent two phones with two contracts. I called to ask how I could send one back. They told me that they would send out a special freepost envelope. Three months later and still no envelope but, in it’s place, a debt collection agency calling me at work for the unpaid second bill-pay phone that I never wanted and never ordered. I eventually contacted the communications regulator and threatened Three with a lawsuit.

Everytime you call these muppets you have to explain the issue from the start. Their internal processes DO NOT WORK.

      1. Paolo

Because every time I spoke to them they said it was sorted. Why would I think that I would be billed when they were “sending out the return envelope”?

they are all the same you wont find better customer service with any of the others in my experience, especially not Vodafone.

      1. Brian Walsh Pictures

I would very strongly disagree that Vodafone have good customer service. I signed up to an internet package of theirs a few years ago – I owed just over a hundred, but then got a phone call from the bank saying that they were trying to take over €1200 from my account. I called Vodafone and was assured the problem would be fixed.
Same thing happened next month, then the month after that. It took 5 phone calls before they finally did something about it.

Lets go ALL the way back to day one.

You noticed that O2 had a good deal? I’m afraid not, you got lured in by a total rip off deal that every muggins falls for. Phone companies love these “deals” (they’re the only one getting a deal by the way). Firstly you are paying over the odds for a pretty basic phone package that at the end of the day is going to cost you way more than buying the phone outright, and second, when it comes to the end of the minimum term of your contract the likelihood is you are going to continue paying huge sums of money to your phone company. Nobody senior who actually works for O2 would ever suggest you take one of their “deals”.

You’re getting completely ridden by your phone company to get a sim locked POS. If you are desperate to have the latest phone, get it on credit and pay it back in installments, and get a sim free plan. You will end up way up on the deal and it also means you’re not tied into a contract so at any time you can switch your service to another company if a better deal comes along.

You’ll have plenty of time to contemplate that waste once your conciousness has been uploaded to the cloud.

The other day I was on the N11 and this light green Audi A4 cut across me just as I reached the Stillorgan Park Hotel. I managed to catch up to the driver and was about to give them a piece of my mind but they sped off. Anyway this morning I am on the way to work and wouldnt you know it same car is in the bus lane after 7am flying past all the traffic. I hope broadsheet print this as I have a corker about when NTL came to my house back in 97 – I dont want to spoil it but lets just say they forgot the coax connector for the socket on the wall.

  8. Buzz

Thanks for posting this, my contract with eMobile has come to an end and I was thinking of switching to 3. You’ve spared me the headache.

  9. Cathy Reynolds

Had contract with three for my (then) minor daughter. I had nothing but problems when trying to end the contract (upon completion of min. term), denied receiving my letter, emails responsed to but didn’t address queries, billed for time after contract had expired, then billed for previous contract as number had (or hadn’t) been transferred. I gave up in the end, threw money at it just to make it stop. My advice, avoid at all costs – customer service from Meteor streets ahead.

Yeah, 1st World problem but still a pain … and a rip off

use a shop for expensive and complicated things.

I upgraded on 3 last year, had to walk an extra two minutes because the phone I wanted wasn’t in stock, I went to carphone warehouse instead.

There was something faulty with the digitiser, so I brought it back and they changed it for a new one.

if a phone and contract is going to cost you >€1100 take an hour off feeling butt hurt and do the deal through a human being

  11. Jones

Or you could have just gotten off your arse, gone into a shop and walked out with the phone within 20 minutes.

  12. Spaghetti Hoop

“Thank you [insert company] name you guys have just lost a customer!”

Most annoying Facebook post ever. It screams “I am a worthy and noble customer and I demand a bow and enormous amounts of arse-licking” – said in a Withnail voice.

  13. Slightly Bemused

Not directly related, but my work phone is with 3. since the O2 merger, now it constantly goes to roaming every fri*ckin’ minute, even in areas where 3 should have a strong singal. It is most annoying to be trying to post to your favourite satirical website when suddenly you are congratulated for roaming and asked if you are in Dublin or Cork. Neither, i’m in effin’ Kildare!

    Not a fan of 3!

  14. Ahh Feck

I moved from Vodafone to Three in October last year. No issues, €22 a month for everything. I love Three. That is all.

  15. fits

Had a few bad experiences with phone companies (vodafone broadband, meteor etc… ). I now buy my phone outright and use payg (which is fine for me). The most I would consider is a 30 day contract.

  16. Mike Baldwin

It’s very important to have the latest phone. For the shaking icons and the drop shadows on title fonts. Utter utter desperate milked fools. Deserve that all the companies foist upon you. Laughable.Try help the world and don’t worry about your phones. Pathetic emptiness…….
