“Dublin’s population may grow by as many 100,000 families during the 2010s but, halfway through the decade, fewer than 10,000 new homes have been built in the capital…The easing of rental inflation in Dublin has little to do with supply coming on-stream, as the total number of properties on the market at any one time remains unhealthily low.”

Hardly a surprise that nothing was built between 2010-2013; Morgan Kelly was apparently right that mortgage debt was going to pull the economy down and the banks would have 100,000 homes they couldn’t sell.
Anyone with the funds to build houses within 30 miles of the GPO over the next 5 years is going to get very rich very quickly assuming they can get through a planning system that takes forever,
WTF does Single Bed and Double Bed mean? Single bed and double apartments? Single room in a house? Vague.

And don’t forget Fine Gael introduced a capital gains tax exemption in 2012 for anyone who buys a rental property and holds it for seven years before selling it.
So they looked after their rentier class mates while cutting services for disabled children.
So you’d prefer property prices kept declining and that nothing got built?
Most of those units bought were rented out which slowed rental growth; the problem nose is that virtually all buy to lets being sold are being bought by owner occupiers which has reduced the supply of rental properties.

Im very surprised at the 15% rise in West Dublin considering its far out. This includes Lucan, Blanch etc.
Areas like this have more houses for rent, and there’s a large increase in young couples wanting to start families.
Many will rent in a house and hope to be able to purchase somewhere in the near future.
Fupping depressing situation for many.

Rents are going to go up in these areas more compared to other areas
In my town of 22,000+ there are 4 properties to rent. Only one is a house. The others are 2 bed apartments. Rent has increased by 10% also, making it a nightmare to find anywhere to lived
Only 3 properties to rent on Daft for Skerries, One is a 2 bed apartment @ €1200 and the other two are houses, a 3 bed @€1400 and a 4 bed at €1500. We’re in a 3 bed house @ €990 and I’m hoping it stays that way.
These stats are flawed.. there’s no mention of the cost of renting a crying chair.
