      I reckon he keeps buying the cheap ‘instant regret’ which is such poor quality, it actually causes delayed celebration

      Because it’s ‘the cheap stuff’ and it doesn’t do what it says on the tin. He drops it but experiences joy rather than regret.

    If you want to see similarly explosive seed-pod action in real life, keep an eye out for the Himalayan balsam plants which are infesting Ireland’s riverbanks. There are tons around, e.g. along the Dodder in Dublin: they’re tall and bushy with reddish stems, slender oval leaves and pink trumpet-shaped flowers on top. If you touch the hanging seed pods they detonate instantly, flinging seeds up to 6 metres from the plant. They’re an invasive species though, so it’s better to rip the whole plants up and destroy them.
