Lack of sufficient packaging plants means there’s irish milk being processed abroad. No huge conspiracy

If only it was as simple to set up a plant as saying “hey there’s unemployed people over there”.

9.8% unemployment isn’t great but its hardly a “jobs famine”.

Also, your flippant use of the word “famine” disrespects the memories of people who actually starved to death or died of related disease in great numbers.

      Thanks for clarifying that.
“We understood this was solely because the butter had been packed into smaller units in the UK. Because the butter was produced in Ireland we concluded the claim ‘Pure Irish Butter’ was not misleading”

It’s a bit like O’Donnells Tipperary Crisps… So the spuds are from The Premier, but the crisps are made, packaged and distributed by Largo Foods in Co. Meath.

Very few Irish dairy products are processed in Ireland. I, being the irritating pedant that I am, tend to only buy products that have an IE in that circle. Why should I support jobs in Wales or Northern Ireland while also paying tax to fund the unemployed here?

Damn right; so easy to support jobs in the Irish food sector like that. If only you could do the same with bread, processed/packaged goods etc.

a number of years ago i found that dunnes own brand cheese was in fact from the uk. i was moved to write a stiffly-worded letter to the times.

Jesus, a simple questioning of packaging becomes an all or nothing prison state in your head.

Am just surprised anyone seen it as some sort of issue in today’s world where companies can set up business wherever they like.
