Now that the sun is finally starting to come out, I’ve made the summer edition [of Pubs With a Fire]: Pubs With A Beer Garden. Like PWAF, it’s Dublin-centric at the moment so I could do with some help finding some national beer gardens.

When does it stop being a seated smoking area and become a beer garden? Once I know I can help with the Limerick ones.

I’m afraid the link is tied to your IP. You might want to fix that first Timmy.

Most beer gardens in seem to be maintained for the benefit of us smokers. I can’t imagine many have pleasant places to sit in the sunshine. Even of the landlord does roll back the canopy, and many don’t, It’s more than likely still just a dingy alleyway.

Some of those pubs are pushing it calling it a beer garden. Also i won’t name the Dublin 8 pub but it has one of the worst pints in Dublin.

The Back Page in phibsboro apparently is very nice. It;s astroturf and has hammocks an ting.

Don’t know what it used to be called. Between phibsboro & GrangeGorman. I think body tonic run it now..

I can only help you with Carlow town, and I’ll list them in order of preference, quality, size, outdoor bar etc…

    * However, Carpe Diem, The Med Bar, Scraggs Alley and The Barracks have lovely smoking sections as well, and they do pull back the canopy in summer, but they’re not really outdoors as such, more of an extension of the pubs themselves, which is great in winter.
