Tiarnan O’Mahoney, one of three Anglo officials convicted at the High Court yesterday for concealing accounts connected to Sean Fitzpatrick from the Revenue

I thought ‘twould be to no avail,
That this prosecution would fail,
I just can’t believe,
Do my eyes deceive,
Did a judge put some bankers in jail?

It won’t stop the some clowns on this site saying nobody was even arrested never mind convicted.

If they are sent to jail, it will be noted.

This far, almost nobody has been charged, even less have been convicted and a smaller amount again jailed for serious white collar crime.

The ‘clowns’ on this site are correct to gripe about the weak level of enforcement of white collar criminality. Is it so ridiculous to expect that white collar criminality be treated with at least the same level of seriousness as TV licence non-payment?

They’re overnight in the cells is all they’ll get, watch as they walk free later today or my name isn’t Seanie Fingleton Fingers Drumm Fitzpatrick *

The judge says yesterday “with regret the accused must remain in custody pending sentence”. So if he regrets remanding them, he’ll cack himself if he has to jail them. Plus I never seen a quicker sentencing hearing, the day after the judgement?. If it were you or me, we’d be in the clink for at least a week or two.

What do they need handcuffs for, haven’t they demonstrated they’ll do exactly what they’re told.

A bit out of the loop here, so I have a question: They were arrested for trying to conceal the accounts of another person; has it not been established that the other person instructed them to do so? Is this why that other person is not in going to jail too?

This other person has other matters before the courts to be dealt with first I believe.

Three bankers didn’t escape to Nantucket,
The drop for their boss, they did took it.
    They’ll most likely walk free,
No more tears will we see.
A longer stint in The Joy they will duck it.
