The ethno-masochists cheerleading (i.e. vandalising Dublin Port company property) the mass importation of angry, confident, forceful young muslim men (who come not from war-torn countries, but other peaceful countries that they didn’t like, for one reason or another), are the same ones who whine about “yes equality”, the “living wage” and “affordable housing”. The type of person who gives “no upper limit” i-phone Joan a vote. They moan about the homelessness situation in Dublin, Facebook “like” trendy homeless charities around Christmas time of year and think the terrorist training centre in Clonskeagh is a sign of how “diverse” and “inclusive” New Ireland has become. It’s been such a success that we need another one in Clongriffin. Every one of the posturing notables simpering ‘refugees welcome’ should be asked if he or she will take a refugee family into his or her home for an indefinite period, and pay for their food, medical treatment and education. If the person who scrawled “refugees welcome” really was compelled to make a difference in the world, they might consider joining the missions (or at least give them a few bob).

    1. Liam O'Flaherty

Peter Hitchens says something similar in the Daily Mail. Think it is a fair point that you raise – how will/would we pay for these refugees, if there is no limit on the numbers that could come here as Joan suggests? Think we should slightly increase the numbers we propose to accept but do not think we should blindly follow Germany’s lead or even consider Burton’s idea.

      1. scottser

How about charging a tax on the warmongers who supply the weapons, the banks and foundations who finance this hate? Someone, somewhere is making a killing. Literally.

    2. jonotti

      Well said Steve.
They want 50,000 to arrive in the next 12 months as that seems to be some ideal benchmarch set by the Germans. Ok, we instantly need 15,000 homes to accommodate these as you all know there is a housing shortage in the country at the moment. That’s over 3 billion in expenditure in the next year which will hammer our deficit in the wrong direction. This is multiples of the cost of Irish water which they are so vocally opposed to.

Refugees may be welcome by you but please don’t speak for us all.

      1. scottser

Isn’t it great to be able to hide the oul racism behind a thin veneer of economics, lads? Ye may do mattie mcgrath ou of his seat yet..

        1. Liam O'Flaherty

Isn’t it great to throw out the aul racism tag out when you want to smother a debate? Honestly, asking simple questions like how a country will pay for X or Y is not racist.

          1. Anne

Putting profit before people has not served the world as a whole very well heretofore.
Hope that didn’t smother the debate for you now..

          2. Liam O'Flaherty

            @Anne.

I’d wholeheartedly agree with you re: profit. Was talking about the discrete issue of having the money to do something, that’s all.

          3. scottser

Umm, how about we don’t pay back some of the 250bn that we shouldn’t have promised to pay in the first place?

oh, and tell me with a straight face that steve isn’t a racist.

          4. Sido

@ Anne – If “money isn’t real”. Then someone needs to explain that to the economic migrants crossing the Med.
Kaboom problem solved – on more humanitarian crisis.

          5. New Person A

Who are you debating with exactly? Talking codswallop to tweedle dumb and Micky Dumber doesn’t count.

        2. Sido

So go on then scotser. How do you propose to tackle this “thin veneer of economics” – which hasn’t been that thin of late, especially when it comes to stuff like say Irish Water?

Or am I bein’ you know raycizz, for asking that one?

          1. scottser

nah, not racist m8, just your usual ‘smart-@rse-for-the-sake-of-being-a-smart-@rse’ remarks that make no real substantive point or offer any real insight into a given situation. buy carry on, it wouldn’t be the same here without you..

          2. scottser

you’re reaching there sido, hoping to get the last word in as always.
take it away though m8e, wouldn’t want you in a huff, would we?

      2. Jonotti

This place is crawling with politically correct imbeciles. I put up a well reasoned financial analysis whihc nobody bothers to offer a counter argument beyond cries of racist and personal insults.

        1. dereviled

We found money for the banks.
You are speculating that none of the refugees will return home or contribute to society if they stay.

          1. All the good ones fly south for winter

Indeed the assumption for many seems to be that 100% of incoming parties will be instantly and permanently dependant. This is a most negative viewpoint.

          2. Sido

And what’s wrong with assuming a negative scenario? “We are where we are” because politicians and bankers over optimistically valued our assets, and borrowed money on the strength of it.

I could go on to discuss Enda and his optimism for various government “projects”, but been there done that.

  2. John Roberts

Dublin has already taken more than its fair share of refugees from the country, culchies are everywhere. We welcomed them and have readily accepted them, Dublin is the friendliest place in the world.

    1. Parochial Central

That’s not true. Not everywhere. Mostly Garda stations and Leinster House. Neither a hotbed of intelligence or value.

  3. Parochial Central

There should be NO upper limit on the number of asylum seekers we allow in. I would gladly pay for the third level education of any of them here – what I do object to is paying for the obese, overpaid, HUYA “native” Irish bottomholes who spent the weekend on the piss at GAA matches and EP. Cop yourselves on you selfish boo-boos and basic bold girls.

    1. Twunt

If you are so glad to pay someone else’s way then please do so, and try and not be a self righteous pr1ck about it.

      1. Parochial Central

I already do. Bad day at the GAA? Up bright and early tomorrow for the builder’s job, there’s a good lad. Awesome to see Adrian Kennedy’s listeners online, isn’t it?

          1. Twunt

Parochial is an elitist, an intellectual fascist. You see in thier world all GAA types, builder types and types without a 3rd level education have views that need not be considered.

    2. John

Refugees don’t get to pick and choose. If you want to pick and choose, then you’re an unskilled economic migrant at best, a medical/welfare tourist at worst.

The first step is for Charlie to publish an immigration policy (preferably Australian style, though this is probably illegal according to EU “law”). Step 2: allocate resources to implement and enforce it. Only then can you do step 3: tell everyone how great you are. Bono, Mick D and Sir Bob are fond of going straight to step 3.

      1. Small Wonder

How wonderful it must be to put a price on another human being. How easy you must sleep, convinced as you are that not only are you unable to offer compassion, but you simply mustn’t offer it. Such sweet dreams of bliss knowing that you have lived your life correctly and are therefore entitled to your comfortable bed. How unfortunate that these migrants refuse to be like you.

        1. John

          Ireland doesn’t have a policy.

Ireland doesn’t have the capability to enforce any such policy.

Your logic is that because we don’t have a policy, sure it doesn’t matter. What’s a few more eh?

Mosney is crawling with rats. Many DP centres are nothing but glorified brothels. Dublin is full of drug addicts, drunks and mentally ill homeless people. And we thought Magdalene laundries were bad?

The budget for emergency accommodation and private rental accommodation is doubling every 4 years. We price out high quality young people and export them. We State fund the world’s low quality migrants to come here (economic migrants, healthcare tourists and dubious refugee applicants). That’s New Ireland for you. The big question is do people want to continue to pay into it? I know lots of people who feel no moral obligation to tick every box on their tax return. They sleep very soundly at night knowing that they prioritised the welfare of their family and community over those of a chaotic, bankrupt State.

          1. realPolithicks

“Mosney is crawling with rats. Many DP centres are nothing but glorified brothels. Dublin is full of drug addicts, drunks and mentally ill homeless people.”

You’re some fu*king cu*t. Why don’t don’t you crawl back into that hole you share with Steve, Jonotti, ABM and the rest of the right wing bigots on here.

          2. Small Wonder

This is the charmed life you lead. You can explain why we shouldn’t help our fellow human beings in economic terms. It’s amazing. No need for compassion if the books don’t balance. No need to put yourself in someone else’s shoes, because our economy is in the shitter. Do you really think we can’t spare anything for these people? I mean really? When you’ve got nothing, even the tiniest something makes a difference.

          3. Sido

@ Small Wonder – How do you know “John” leads a “charmed life”. Do you know him personally?
Or are you just a self righteous ****, who spews nasty, ill considered comments off his lappy?

  4. ABM

The “labour” party has arrived. They are now well and truly the “welfare” party. That’s their client base and that’s where the growth area is (as they see it). The idea that a working man might actually work, achieve financial independence from The State, live a modest life in suburbia and have interests in things that transcend the parish pump (art, culture, technology, history, etc) horrifies them. They want everyone equal in the gutter.

  5. Arcol

This is shaping up to be the moral fault-line that defines our age, and, ultimately, you will be on one side or the other. You can choose to be part of a solution that will doubtless involve some sacrifice, or you can choose to find reasons why we shouldn’t. Personally, I would rather look back and say that at least I tried.

    1. Parochial Central

+800K. Well said. Besides, who wants to share the opinions of Irish’s white van nationalists, Daily Star, and “don’t knock me down” jacketed breakfast roll men on their break in Spar from the plastering job. Hardly a hotbed of intellect.

      1. John

Why do you despise people working, people paying into the tax system and people that participate in the civic life of the country they were born in? I guess they should consult the Oirish Times before deciding if it’s currently rascist and/or appropriate to follow the Irish soccer team?

You come across as a toffee nosed snob. Do you work yourself? You might be surprised to learn that many of those hi-viz men that you detest so much earn multiples of what you earn.

      2. Twunt

By continuously asserting that anyone who does not agree that we should do as you wish, is an uneducated builder is perhaps the most presumptuous and ignorant thing on this threat. Your self righteousness is staggering.

      3. Sido

Because the views of people, who were to ignorant and thick, that they didn’t get third level education should count for nothing.
The proletariat are truly disgusting louts – you should consider applying for a job in banking or capitalism or something “Parochial Centre”.

You really are wasted doing this leftie pinko routine.

    2. Janet, I ate my avatar

Yes definitely a sometimes unwelcome revealing of true colours on this one.. the human tribe, xenophobic and terrified.

  6. CousinJack

Taking in refugees is exactly the wrong thing to do. Putting soldiers on the ground and governing those places so people can live in them is the only sustainable option.

Also it’s hilar when monoracial ireland criticises multiracial UK for their racism. 2.7 million muslims live in the UK.

      1. Terry

???? Are you for real Dereviled? Is that the only comment you can make about that article. You really do have your bandwagon blinkers on.

  7. New Person A

    Soppy wacky pipe tobaccy
    Types, intone here daily
Oh my dog we’ll be overrun
    They announce in accents
    Maily.
    Mainly manly, so they think,
These posters would rob your gravy
If they had a hands free wank-enabling
PDA from behind which to condemn, bravely.

  8. Hashtag McMór

Ireland: EUR 50 million on refugees. EUR 6.3 billion on booze annually. Great little obese country, pissed too.

  9. Liam O'Flaherty

Another way you could look at it is – drinks Industry provides jobs for many Irish people. Taxes on drink provide a source of income and *some* of that money provides the means to take care of the refugees.
