Wait……..really? Look say whatever you want about Labour and there’s plenty with a lot to say, but I never would have had them down to be this lacking in self-awareness. How on earth could the leader of a party in power in this country think it was a good photo-op to turn up at the opening of a foodbank?

Are we going to see Alan White turn up at the opening of a detention centre to house anyone that doesn’t pay their water bill? Or Leo Varadkar show up with a camera crew in toe to a funeral of someone who committed suicide?

      +1 all the way.

Having written to Labour about the photo-ops at food banks that Joan has done before, I can say she is aware of the view that it is stupid.

Who is Joan’s / Labour’s campaign advisor? What kind of pretty penny are we paying them? Is this advisor being paid above the recommended rate? Can any aul gobslight be given the job because it sure looks that way.

A Minister for Social Welfare in a modern western democracy performing the grand-opening of a charity food-bank.

This is the simultaneously the stupidest, saddest and weirdest thing I’ve heard of in a long time.

I’m not one for jumping on the anti-Joan, anti-labour bandwagon, but this is just ridiculous.

The protests aside. Opening a food bank is like opening a shrine to mark your failure at your job as Minister for Social Welfare.

A bit like a Minister for Health going for check-ups at the Mayo clinic and going to Romania to get his dental work done.

The UK had the Chief Secretary to the Treasury open one. Sure, its great publicity isn’t it?

I don’t think they get the irony because they are scumbags

Why in the name of fupp is a minister of social protection opening a food bank?!?

A food bank by default is evidence that the state is incapable of feeding its most vulnerable and their rise is evidence of the failure of our current welfare state.

She should hang her head in shame that these things have become ubiquitous under her watch rather than turning up at their opening like a grinning imbecile.

But at least they have the tactics right this time. Can’t do a whole lot regarding not letting her in. Completely different Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster when you don’t let her out though.

You can rely on Rent-A-Mob. Our mission statement is:

1.Little to be doing since the year dot
    2. Where’s me laaaaabouuuurrr?

    1. Owen

The lad in the first photo (grey trakies and green / blue top) was in the photo yesterday too I think? When she was blocked leaving somewhere.

  5. Mister Mister

Emma-Jane, I don’t suppose anyone has every said you’re prone to over exaggeration did they ?

They’re seems to be as many press there as there does the mob.

It was worse but I only got pics of it cooling. Iphone batt let me down took these tethered to my laptop with a long cable standing on a wall… Don’t think I said it was a big crowd…

I’d say that old fellow with a stick is a garda plant – provocateurs

If that lassie in the cerise top decides to do The Bump with that peeler, she’ll knock him clear through that warehouse wall. Cheap Shots ‘R’ Us!

What is yer one doing at a foodbank?

Joan has my vote.. opening a foodbank, she has our interests at heart. A place where I can lodge my spare tins of beans for safe keeping.

      1. scottser

you have a bean surplus? as in, too many beans? like, spare beans? that you want to put into a bean bank? man, i’m so jealous..

  8. Mr. T.

This a political move to suggest Food Banks are a positive and normal feature of the social economy.

    They are not.

    1. Anne

Like the modular caravans with no wheels, they probably have food banks in Germany and Holland.
If it’s good enough for the Germans and the Dutch, I don’t see the problem.

Trailer parks and food banks are the way forward

  9. DubLoony

So if she didn’t turn up she’s be accused of being out of touch. The call for protesters went out 5 days in advance. She still turned up.

  10. Hector Ramirez

As Mhairi Black said in her maiden speech in House of Commons across the water

‘Food banks are not part of the welfare state, they are a symbol that the welfare state is failing’

And that is the responsibility of this Labour leader, the same Labour leader supposedly in government to protect
the most vulnerable in society. The same labour leader who was elected on promises as such. But has watched AND imposed cuts on the most vulnerable.

Joan will be gone after next election, even her own TDs know it. That’s why they were more interested in deputy leader position in last Labour Party election

Bye bye Joan, and i only hope you take your party with you.
