Gemma O’Doherty
The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) is carrying out a criminal investigation, under Section 98 of the Garda Siochana Act, into complaints made by Gemma O’Doherty, arising from her work as a journalist.
Ms O’Doherty has alleged that she’s been subjected to a campaign of harassment, intimidation, surveillance and endangerment of her personal safety since January 2011.
Cases worked on include Fr Niall Molloy, Shane O’Farrell, Shane Tuohey, the wiping of former Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan‘s penalty points and summonses not being delivered to Fianna Fáil TD Robert Troy, Garda whistleblowers, Limerick’s disappeared, Jim Goonan, Mary Boyle and Traveller children’s names being placed on PULSE.
Ms O’Doherty alleges this campaign began when she first started to publish evidence in relation to the Fr Molloy murder investigation. She believes this Garda action against her is ongoing and that it is being conducted on a covert and unlawful basis.
Ms O’Doherty is alleging that her telephone and email account continue to be interfered with and intercepted unlawfully by members of An Garda Síochána.

Gemma O’Doherty is a real thorn in the side of the Government, & the Government are happy to turn a blind eye to this type of carry on by the Gardaí who in exchange will be there in a flash whenever anybody refuses to bend over backwards in compliance with FG/ Labour/Dinny policies.
Keep it up Gemma.
+1
Behind you all the way Gemma!
God. It must feel like David and Goliath.
If keeping secrets was an olympic sport Ireland would be world champions.
I know of countries where people would be fired, prosecuted and jailed for carrying these vendettas. Yes, there are countries where they would get away with it also, but lets aim high for a while.
Wonder what sort of proof she has?
To be clear: I believe her. But she’s got king kong size liathroidi to push something like this if she can’t back it up.
I also believe her, but I don’t think many would doubt her, as the Gardaí in recent years have tonnes of form with regards to intimidation tactics, & harassment, especially under this government.
I dont know if she would accept, but I think the next Government should make her a Senator , it might offer her some protection and the news copy on her Seanad speeches might be very interesting…
She’s a bit of a hero, isn’t she?
Frank Connolly and Gemma Doherty, the only decent journalists in Ireland. And to think Roisin Ingle gets more notice than these too. Sweet Jesus.
Cripes if half her allegations are true, that’s scary stuff. I heard similar complaints from someone involved in the Innocence Project when they were trying to get a State pardon for Harry Gleeson who was executed in the 40s for a murder he didn’t commit. Garda harassment and intimidation. Can’t wait to vote the Blueshirts out.
Queue: feigning disbelief and abhorrence by those supposedly heading the ngardaí.
The lid of the dustbin keeps popping off, they don’t like that. How has nothing changed?
Brave woman.
why did she not fight her case instead of taking the settlement?
because otherwise she could’nt have lived. She’s not a millionaire, and work for her is hard to come by.
She got a job with the Sunday Times.
Due on Prime Time tomorrow night, Katie Hannon reports on the large number of cases which Gardai allegedly failed to investigate properly and were referred to the Department of Justice’s review mechanism but many of the victims in these cases feel that they are being failed again by the review.
“Ms O’Doherty is alleging that her telephone and email account continue to be interfered with and intercepted unlawfully by members of An Garda Síochána”
thats quite a claim, always is
How could they do that without having physical access to her telephone to install spyware?
they run lawful intercepts from the telecom’s network.
Holy poo, there’s no way that could be lawful. It would be unconstitutional apart from anything else.
seems like another day in the office for the Ministry Of Love.
You couldn’t make it up..
I’d say if she wrote a book on it, it’d be a best seller.
