Former Fine Gael Councillor Keith Redmond and Renua leader Lucinda Creighton at Leinster House this morning

The Councillor for Fine Gael in Fingal Country Council, Keith Redmond is to leave the Government party to join Renua.
Redmond is also a founder and director the liberal economic think-tank, Hibernia Forum, is fed up by the ‘nanny state tendencies’ of an increasingly centrist and ‘big State’ Fine Gael party, as well as the governing party’s lack of support for small business culture and prudent public spending.
Renua’s announcement of a Flat Tax system as a central part of its economic policy finally triggered the move away from Fine Gael is also a aim and ambition of the Hibernia Forum.

I contacted Mr Redmond about the arts funding in Fingal last year, he was not the least bit nice in his response. I attach it below as I got it.

That’s exactly the response I’d want to get. He’s being totally honest. I don’t agree with him at all but at least he didn’t give you a load of waffle to try and keep you on board.

Also, he sounds like an idiot if he cannot recognise what the arts can do on the whole. Probably because a lot of economists in these think-tanks don’t know how to factor the arts (and ‘social commerce’) into their studies and so they simply ignore it…. like the idiots they are…. “if you don’t know how to work it into your calculations, ignore it” type thinking.
+2 I’d rather my idiots be totally honest about their idiotic opinions. Also +1 for the comments about the baffling lack of understanding of the human aspect of human invented economics.
When I first read that ‘social commerce’ was being completely ignored by mainstream economists I was genuinely baffled at such stupidity.
Yeah, the biggest disappointment in growing up is realising that there’s a scary amount of adults in influential positions that haven’t really got a clue what they’re doing. Either these economists think everything is just maths or they’re engaging in confirmation bias and massaging their ego by coming up with a theory to validate the conclusion they already came to. It’s shocking the amount of people that mistake their feelings for objective facts.
how was that not nice? He doesn’t agree with you, that’s part of life. I didn’t agree with much of his viewpoint, too Ayn Randy for my liking but it was possible to at least debate ideas with him which is more than can be said about a good number in Irish politics.

Whatever about being ‘nice’, he should have been far more helpful to you with your query and included some explanations for the cuts in arts funding. I would expect that from an elected representative; information, direction, responsiveness, assistance – not his personal opinion and letter-writing laziness.

Not on the issue just the contradiction. A libertarian believes in people making their own choices.
I’m not sure if there is any such thing as a real, 100% libertarian. If there were, I presume that they would be precluded from running for public office on account of their beliefs. They would probably have to go an live in Somalia or something.
In my experience absolutely everyone who self identifies as a libertarian is anything but.
Living in London with London tap water, I’d kill for some of that fluoridated loveliness at home. I definitely notice it in my teef.
There’s no freedom of choice either way – but if the water is fluoridated, you can choose to buy non-fluoridated. I don’t know where to go to make the reverse true?

Nah, Thames Water don’t add it, anything in it is only naturally occuring.
Even if they did the stuff is undrinkable in fairness. I leave a glass of water by my bed at night, in the morning there’s a mound of sand at the bottom >_<
London water is great for your bones though. TW don’t add it but councils do, City of London fluoridates the water there.

A socially Darwinistic view on human society, this world view is from a person of small horizons, as if society is a level playing field and the ills of society are moral faults and can be fixed by the charitable whims of citizens, not a functioning state body, a view held by industrialists around the time of Charles Dickens, a well-off boor, I’d be afraid to see how many votes he gets.
