Fair play in fairness. The Irish open had turned into a load of rubbish. No sponsorship meant an extremely weak field. Was at it in Carton a few years back and it was full of nobodies.

    Big ass K-Club event… sponsored by a charity….. eh?

Does anyone seriously believe that celeb charities are the real deal, I sure don’t.
I’d bet there’s all sorts of ways of reducing ones tax bill with a charity you can invest your time in…. and therefore deduct yo taxes from… isn’t that the REAL point of these celeb charities?

I’d be delighted to be proven wrong. Honestly, nothing better than slapping down the cynic in oneself.

Rory’s is a foundation… So I’m sure there are paid employees, and possibly some tax breaks, but I’m also sure that they do positive work…. Such as developing the Irish Open into a rich sporting tournament, attracting big sponsorship, bigger stars and helping the Irish profile, economy, future of Irish golfers and supporting local charities.

You just described a thing that is both a golf promotion tool and a bit of charity on the side….. I find it a bit much that some rich guy sets up a charity and then uses it for tax breaks. How much do these guys write off?

Sooner the rules on charities in this country are tightened up the better.

Not saying Rory’s is dodgy, but proof of charities abuse being rife in this country is not hard to find…. hence my cynicism.
