That’s just lovely that is – erect a fence between the seat of governance and the rest of the country. Who do they think they are, Tsars?

So anything less than Celtic Tiger peak figures for any metric of our economy is “meaningless”? Thanks for this rational analysis.

ah, but back in 09 we still had garda stations to put the into. where are the new gardai going to sit, hah? in a MODULAR garda station, no doubt.

Those cops should be patrolling the streets on foot getting rid of drug addicts who roam freely around town.

    1. All the good ones fly south for winter

Being an addict should not result in a loss being free range. Free range addicts give good egg.

Anyway we will need those additional Garda to dig out the snow with their big hands this winter.

    2. Cool_Hand_Lucan

      Well, no they shouldn’t.

Addicts should be treated by the HSE and not criminalised which would free up Garda resources to tackle actual crimes such as knowingly building apartments that aren’t safe for habitation or murdering priests at dinner parties.

The junkies involved in petty theft, fighting and anti-social behaviour could be termed addicts and criminals. Spend a day and an evening in town; you’ll see them.

        1. MoyestWithExcitement

Right, but maybe we could look at why they’re addicts in the first place. I’m not saying we don’t arrest muggers but we can either just react to them for the rest of our lives or work out why it happens. Not too many heroin addicts in Foxrock.

          1. Bodger

Moyeswithexcitement, According to a volunteer who works with chronic heroin addicts in Dublin city centre “almost all” the people she works with say they were abused as children/teenagers.

was down there earlier, theyre everywhere .. ones with horses and everything, all around the surrounding street. what’s goin on? what are they expecting?

    1. offMooof

They don’t know what to expect. one of the upsides to a massive cultural divide is the political class have practically zero ways of listening in on political conversations of the working class. The oul controlled resistance worked for em for a while but now people are wise to that not much happens around people associated with the main power structures on ‘the left’.

Too many protests have resulted in criminality in the past few years so this is the result – a massive waste of resources.

      1. scottser

sgt: ‘now lads, i heard that murphy fella got his oul megaphone back from the repair shop. we can exshpect the worse. i need forty bodies to shtand around shcratching their holes for the next 5 hours. who’s up for it?’

    3. ethereal_myst

Did you smell the fear and paranoia in the air down there? Can’t think of any other reason for them to set this lot up

  4. Declan

So if they do their job and prepare for a protest then it’s a waste of time??? Seriously, the amount of holy joes here are ridiculous!!!

  5. CousinJack

Dennis must have lots of unpopular, barely legal works planned fro the government in the next few years.
Why aren’t IW subject to the same street works regulations as ESB/Gas Networks/Eir(com)/everyone else?
